Introductory Text

Are you working in public administration, the (civil) security sector, or are you working on the rule of law? Do you think you can contribute to peace and security from your civilian expertise? Then the role of Reservist within the Politics network is for you!

Note: If you are hired for this position, you will be appointed within the Ministry of Defence with the job title: Reservist Specific Expertise, in the rank of Lieutenant.

What you will do

As a Reservist in the Politics network, you will be assigned to one of three areas of expertise: 1) Rule of Law (RoL), 2) Governance (Gov), and 3) Public Safety and Security (PSS). The assignment is usually based on your civilian field of expertise. For you as a reserve officer, this means concretely advising the military commander on the interaction between the military mission and civil society in the ‘area of operations’ and its immediate surroundings. This includes collecting and analyzing data about stakeholders, civilian actors, organizations, institutions, and countries that may influence the mission. The influence of the political system, parties, form of government, institutions (e.g., the legal system), and executive organizations such as the police, judiciary, prison system, but also the fire brigade, are included in this. Your civilian expertise is essential in this.

Note: As a reservist, you will have a zero-hours contract. You will agree with your commander on the number of hours you will be deployed. This can be a fixed number of hours per week or month, or per exercise or project.

PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION

• Salary: on top of your hourly wage, you will receive a holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, and pension accrual pro rata to the number of hours worked. You will also receive travel expenses reimbursement on duty travel basis and can exercise at almost any barracks nearby.
• Work atmosphere: nowhere will you find such a close-knit team of colleagues as at the Ministry of Defence.
• Challenge: not only in terms of content, but also due to your unique work environment and responsibility.

Where you will work

You will be placed within the Politics network of the 1st Civil-Military Interaction Command (1 CMI Co), which establishes and maintains relationships with relevant civilian organizations and individuals in the Netherlands and mission areas. You will participate in exercises and should take into account that you may be deployed for a duration of at least 4 months. You should also consider that adequately fulfilling this function requires a minimum of 200-250 hours per year.
