Job description

Introductory Text

Do you have an affinity for project management and insight into (inter)national developments in the field of crisis management, humanitarian aid, and communication? And are you considering putting on the green uniform? Then apply as a Reservist Social Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs (SCUHA)/Information (INFO). Here you will be asked to carry out projects within your field of expertise (either under the leadership of a senior project manager or not) and to advise and support the commander with the military mission in mission areas.

What you will do

As a Reservist SCUHA/INFO, you will, as a junior consultant/functional specialist, provide knowledge and expertise for exercises and operations. You will carry out projects, actively participate in making assessments and country studies, and perform consultancy and frontfill and backfill tasks.

You will also be deployed to increase flexibility, employability, operational continuity, and to absorb peak loads within the entire Armed Forces. We are looking for someone who is skilled in analysis, translation, reporting, and evaluation, and who is proficient in English (spoken and written). You must also be able to well manage complex and sensitive projects in a mission area.

Note: As a reservist, you will have a zero-hour contract. Depending on your availability, you will make agreements with your commander about the number of hours you will be deployed. This can be a fixed number of hours per week or month, or per exercise or project.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS FUNCTION

  • Salary: in addition to your hourly wage, you will receive a holiday allowance, year-end bonus, and pension accrual pro rata to the number of hours worked. You will also receive travel expenses reimbursement on a duty travel basis.
  • Work atmosphere: nowhere will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as at the Ministry of Defence.
  • Challenge: you will carry out projects within your field of expertise and advise and support the commander with the military mission in mission areas.

Where you will work

You will be placed at the Social Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs (SCUHA)/Information (INFO) knowledge network, within 1 Civil Military Interaction Command (1 CMI Command). This is a joint component of the OOCL.

The SCUHA/INFO knowledge network bundles a multitude of specialist knowledge in the areas of demographics, education, refugees, gender, languages, culture, religion, and cultural heritage, and communication. You will participate in exercises and must take into account that you may be deployed abroad.

SCUHA/INFO reservists have deployment experience, including in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Mali. They have advised and guided governments, local and regional government organizations, and military commanders, thus contributing to the sustainable reconstruction of local society.

Communication and Engagement

The current security situation is subject to change: phenomena such as hybrid threats, identity issues, demographic developments, the global spread of the internet, and mass use of social media play a major role in modern conflicts.

One of the required capabilities in this context is Communication & Engagement (C&E). This includes researching, understanding, and choosing the right approach in the context of the operational and civilian environment. This capability requires a number of necessary specialisms that are essential in the current context of military operations in the fields of social media analysis and influencing, media graphics and digital product development, and mass communication.
