Introduction

Are you an ex-military member and does camaraderie still flow through your veins? Have you also previously served in the Royal Netherlands Navy, Royal Netherlands Army, or Royal Netherlands Air Force and do you want to continue your military career and contribute to peace and security? Then you can return part-time as a Reservist with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. After a short technical training, you can support us in border control. Even if you served in another branch of the armed forces, it's as if you never left!

What you will do

As a re-entrant, you can be deployed for various tasks within the Marechaussee. You will start – depending on your background – as a First-Line Border Guard or as a Marechaussee Reservist Guarding and Security (B&B). Additionally, it is possible to follow separate training courses for tasks such as Prisoner Care, Transport, Court Support (ATP), and Guarding and Security.

As a First-Line Border Guard, you and your colleagues will ensure safety and smooth flow at the border crossing point during peak hours. You will check travel documents and, after approval, grant access to the next stage for the traveler. Your knowledge of travel documents and your interpretation of the behavior of a group and/or individual are of great importance for border control. To gain this knowledge, you will follow training at the Marechaussee, for which you will receive a salary. You will start with theoretical training, in which you will be taught knowledge of Aliens Law and receive document training.

As a Marechaussee Reservist Guarding and Security (B&B), you can be deployed for various tasks within the Brigade Object Security (BOB). You will thus contribute to the security of the state by guarding and securing the royal residences and workplaces, as well as the Catshuis. Think of static access control, internal patrols on the grounds, and camera surveillance. Additionally, you can be deployed for ceremonial duties, such as participating in a guard of honor during events like Prinsjesdag or state visits.

The Marechaussee is currently establishing a Marechaussee Battalion for Military Police tasks (MP), such as escorting military convoys and guarding prisoners of war. Separate MP training for Reservists is under development for this. The first Reservists are expected to start with this in 2026. Transferring to a military police function is therefore also possible.

PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION

• Salary: you will receive an hourly wage equal to that of a professional military member of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, depending on your rank. If you go on exercise or deployment? Then you will receive an exercise or deployment allowance in addition to your salary.
• Work atmosphere: nowhere else will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
• Good secondary employment conditions: associated with the appointment, such as travel allowance, pension accrual, holiday allowance, and year-end bonus.
• Growth opportunities: through modular training in the areas of Prisoner Care, Transport, Court Support (ATP), Guarding and Security, and Military Police tasks, enabling you to be deployable for more KMar tasks.

Where you will work

As a Reservist of the Marechaussee, you will be deployed for various tasks in your familiar work environment within Defensie. You can be deployed at one of the airports in the Netherlands as a First-Line Border Guard. Or you can be deployed as a Guard and Security officer at the Brigade Object Security (BOB). The BOB is responsible for the Security of the Royal House in The Hague and Apeldoorn. You can also be deployed for Guarding and Security tasks in Soesterberg.

This is a part-time position, based on a 0-hour contract, where you can be deployed (primarily) on weekends. Working hours vary: sometimes you will have morning shifts starting at 06:00 AM and sometimes late shifts until 10:00 PM. For this operational function, you must be available at least 25 days per year, including one Saturday and/or Sunday per month (excluding your vacation). This also includes mandatory training and/or theory days. A job as a Reservist at the Marechaussee is voluntary, but certainly not without obligation! Therefore, consider carefully whether this is feasible for you.

Please note: Even as an ex-colleague, you must meet a number of requirements. To be considered for a position as a Reservist with the Marechaussee, you must have been honorably discharged from your defense component in the past.

It is also important that you are still physically and mentally fit. Depending on how long you have been out of service, you will receive a shortened or full medical examination. A security investigation is also part of the selection procedure.

Note: We consider it important that you make a well-considered choice to become a Reservist. A prerequisite for applying is that you have attended an information session, even if you are an ex-military member (re-entrant).
