What you will do

As a reservist driver, you will be deployed to 110 or 220 transport company or to 210 regional transport company, depending on your previous military and driving experience. You will carry out goods transport under operational conditions for the (re)supply of deployed units. You are responsible for your own vehicle, the loading, and the execution of routes. Your cargo may consist of various classes of goods in, among other things, 20-foot containers, reefer containers, tank containers, or flat racks. You will drive routes in support of exercises and missions for all defense components, both domestically and abroad. Because your deployment may take place near combat operations, you will be trained as a soldier. In addition, you must be able to operate on unpaved terrain in difficult conditions and, for this reason, you must obtain your military driving license.

You will transport goods in containers and on flat racks using trucks with a demountable body system. This means you are not dependent on external parties for loading your vehicle and can transport all types of cargo in the deployment area. Think of food and drinks, spare parts, but also fuel and ammunition.

Note: as a military reservist, you will primarily be deployed to meet peak demands in the logistics chain. You will therefore be employed on a zero-hours contract and paid for the hours you actually work in called-up service. You are expected to maintain your military skills annually and may be deployed several times a year during exercises lasting one or more weeks. The total deployment will be four to six weeks per year. You will make arrangements about this with your commander.

Where you will work

You will be assigned to the Supply and Transport Command (B&TCo) of the Royal Netherlands Army at the Stroe army base. Placements in Havelte or Eindhoven are also possible at 210 regional transport company. Under operational conditions, the B&TCo provides supplies, (heavy) transport, and various services such as catering capabilities and the planning and execution of non-operational road freight transport.

If you have been in the military before and left service less than six years ago, you may be able to skip parts of the selection procedure. If you have not been in the military before, you will go through the full procedure as described on werkenbijdefensie.nl and, after a positive assessment, you will follow the General Military Training for reservists (ARB).
