The operational needs of the armed forces are diverse and growing rapidly due to geopolitical circumstances. To manage this wide array of supporting materiel effectively, we are looking for THE specialist for this unique role. As a functional SAP specialist, you will structure and harmonize inconsistent article master data and parameters. Your analytical approach will prevent data quality errors, ensuring that procurement and maintenance processes for a broad range of materiel run smoothly. As you will be in a senior position, you will also take on a leadership role. You will functionally manage two colleague Technical and Documentation Employees (Techdoc employees) daily, guiding them in their work and monitoring overall quality.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
You will manage and structure technical and logistical documentation for a wide range of goods.
You will be the functional SAP specialist for setting up article master data and complex parameters.
You will coordinate specifications with various demand creators to ensure uniformity.
You will be part of a team for tender processes, where you are responsible for the technical aspect.
You will functionally manage two colleague Techdoc employees, coach them on content, and collectively elevate data quality to a higher level.
Job Requirements
You possess broad logistical and/or technical interest, education, and work experience (minimum HBO completed) and have strong analytical skills, combined with an HBO diploma.
You are a functional SAP specialist (or are capable of becoming one), specifically for article master data and parameters.
You have the capabilities and preferably also the experience to guide colleagues substantively and functionally.
You enjoy working accurately, understanding details, and collaborating effectively with various stakeholders.
Motivation instruction: Write a standard cover letter, with the motivation partially focused on the specific cluster 'Diversen' (Miscellaneous).

Defensie offers good secondary employment conditions. From 2025 onwards, defense employees will no longer receive holiday pay and year-end bonus as separate payments, but will build them up monthly through the Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB for defense employees totals 16.33 percent of the salary. With the IKB, defense employees can decide for themselves when, what, and how much budget they spend on time, money, or tax facilities. This can be up to the monthly accrued budget.
The IKB can be used for:
- A maximum of 15 percent of the salary can be used monthly for the exchange of the commute allowance;
- The monthly difference between the allowance for the costs of own transportation for commuting and the tax maximum;
- A bicycle for personal use, including bicycle accessories and bicycle insurance;
- A computer that can also be used for work or study, including computer accessories and computer insurance;
- A battery or electrical parts for a bicycle;
- Payment of trade union membership fees.
- Defensie expects to further expand the possibilities of the IKB in the future.
- Secondary employment conditions include, among others, up to 75% paid parental leave (under conditions), study facilities, extensive sports facilities, an additional leave arrangement for older employees, and a commute allowance.
Specifics
A security investigation (VGB - Verklaring van Geen Bezwaar) is part of the application process.
It is mandatory for you, as a civilian applicant, to have Dutch nationality. The ability to present a Certificate of Conduct (VOG - Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag) is a condition for employment. In addition, a security investigation and reference check may be part of the selection procedure. This involves a background check on, among other things, criminal records and financial matters, which takes an average of 8 weeks.
Selection process: We will close the vacancy earlier if we receive sufficient applications from suitable candidates.
