About Mahitahi Hauora
Mahitahi Hauora PHE works collaboratively with primary healthcare providers, Māori health providers, community, and key partners, to support our member general practices in achieving better health outcomes for our Tai Tokerau population. As a primary healthcare organisation underpinned by Ti Tiriti o Waitangi, our kaupapa is to enable whānau and communities to achieve self-determined wellbeing and equitable access to health services. Our vision is healthy whānau, thriving Northland.
We are part of a newly established consortium of six Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) working together to deliver the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). This nationally coordinated, regionally responsive Scheme is designed to support nurses during the final year of their Nurse Practitioner (NP) training and the first 6 months following registration.
Our six PHOs are recognised as strategic influencers within the health system. Collectively, we support more than 450 general practices across key regions providing reach, local insight and sector expertise. We will collaborate with other parts of the health sector nationally and regionally who may employ NP trainees as part of this programme.
As a collective, we are committed to ensuring the NPTSS is scalable, equitable, and responsive to the diverse needs of NP trainees, including those working in urban, rural and isolated communities across Aotearoa.
Opportunity
The Regional Programme Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the successful delivery of the NPTSS. Reporting to the Regional Nursing Director and working closely with the Regional Nurse Practitioner Lead, this position provides critical coordination and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the programme across the region.
A key focus of the role is to support both employers and Nurse Practitioner trainees throughout the programme - monitoring progress and ensuring access to supervision, mentoring, and cultural support. The Regional Programme Coordinator will also help maintain programme quality and consistency, proactively identifying and addressing any challenges that may affect the trainee's learning experience or placement success.
Collaboration and relationship management are central to this role. You'll work closely with employers, tertiary education providers, cultural supervisors, and key partners across primary, community, and secondary care. This role is well-suited to someone who thrives on connection, coordination, and contributing to equitable health outcomes for Māori, Pacific, and priority populations.

Key Skills
- Experience in programme coordination within primary, community, or aged care, or a similar healthcare environment
- Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholders
- Excellent organisational and project coordination skills, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach
- A sound understanding of health inequities and a commitment to advancing equitable outcomes for Māori and Pacific Peoples
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities with professionalism and attention to detail
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to health and workforce development
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office and other digital collaboration tools
- Current full driver's licence
