Quality Manager (m/f/d) - Supplier Quality & Product Testing

It's quitting time and you leave the office, happy and with a strong feeling. Your first day at PRESCH was simply great 🔥

You looked at the product range: over 500 active items, from hammers to saw blades, suppliers spread across half of Asia, sales in more than twenty countries. And you immediately saw where the system is still lacking. Not because no one is looking here - but because no one has had the task of turning individual tests into a system.

This is exactly what your task will be. We are significantly expanding our quality assurance because we are developing more and more of our own products. You won't be given a finished structure, you will design it 💪

And you'll quickly realize: We don't talk here, we do. Short distances, direct line to management, decisions made the same day.

Responsibilities

🛠️ You approve - or you don't. Before every shipment, a sample from ongoing production comes to you. You check according to dimensions, materials, surface finish, and function, document the result in the initial sample inspection report, and decide whether the goods are shipped. Nothing moves without your yes.

🛠️ You build the testing system. Test specifications per product group and per item, sampling sizes and acceptance numbers according to AQL, release samples as a binding benchmark, traceability of every finding to batch and supplier. Reproducibility is the goal: The same test must deliver the same result in two years.

🛠️ You check what has actually arrived. When the batch arrives at the warehouse, a sample from it comes to you and is compared against the stored release sample. This is precisely where cases are identified where something different was delivered than what was approved. Because not only the first delivery must be correct, but the twentieth one too.

🛠️ You test across the entire product range. Hand tools from hammers to screwdrivers, pliers and wrenches to measuring tools and protective equipment. And power tool accessories: drill bits, bits, saber saw blades, jigsaw blades, and circular saw blades, abrasives. You evaluate hand tools statically, accessories only under load - with a defined test material and failure criterion, so that service lives remain comparable.

🛠️ You make quality measurable. Defect rates per supplier, product group, and batch, complaint and return rates per item, quality-related supplier evaluation. So that purchasing decisions are made with numbers, not impressions.

🛠️ You investigate customer defects. Complaints, returns, and product reviews are the fastest quality feedback we receive - faster than any supplier report. You interpret them as findings, assign them to the batch, and close the loop with the supplier.

🛠️ You manage our external testing institutes. Where a standard requires accredited testing - VPA, TÜV, VDE - you obtain quotes, commission, track deadlines, and evaluate reports. You keep track of which standard applies to which product group.

🛠️ You set up our testing workshop. Test stations, measuring equipment, test materials, test equipment management with calibration intervals. You decide which equipment you work with.

🛠️ You work with our QC Officer in Asia. He tests on-site at the factories, you evaluate his reports and define the testing requirements. Two checkpoints, one system.

Your Impact after 12 months

🛠️ There is a testing system according to which someone else could also test - with test specifications, AQL levels, and release samples for the most important product groups.

🛠️ No shipment leaves production without documented approval. And the test is still not a bottleneck.

🛠️ Every finding is traceable to the batch, supplier, and production period.

🛠️ There is monthly quality reporting that is actually used in purchasing.

🛠️ Complaints and returns have measurably decreased because defects are identified by you, not by the customer.

🛠️ The testing workshop is set up, including wear testing under load.

Qualifications

🛠️ Technical training with further education to become a technician or master craftsman, or a technical degree. Mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, quality management, or comparable - the direction is more open than you think, practical experience counts more than the degree.

🛠️ Two to five years in quality assurance or quality management. Ideally in a company that procures rather than manufactures itself, with international suppliers.

🛠️ Initial sample inspection, test planning, and AQL are not abbreviations to you, but everyday life. You have already written initial sample inspection reports and determined acceptance numbers.

🛠️ You understand tools as a user. You have drilled, sawed, and screwed yourself and know how a good tool feels. Without this, any evaluation remains a number without meaning.

🛠️ Reproducibility is your ambition, not your duty. You record what you find - measurement value, image, condition, judgment. Because a finding is only valuable if it can still be understood in two years.

🛠️ You remain steadfast. A hold-up stops goods, and then it gets uncomfortable. Anyone who approves in doubt to have peace makes the most expensive mistake in this role.

🛠️ AI is your daily tool. We use it throughout the company. If you have already built analyses, templates, or workflows with it, you fit well with us.

🛠️ Very good German and good English. You speak directly with our manufacturers and read test reports in the original.

Bonus: Experience with Asian suppliers. Experience with measuring instruments such as calipers, hardness testing, or torque testing. Knowledge of standards for tools and power tool accessories. Experience with wear and service life testing. Experience in setting up a QM system or a testing facility. And if you bring a test specification or a test concept that you have written yourself - show it to us. We want to see how you think, not just what's on the CV.
