QA/QC Engineer (Process Packaged Units) (m/w/d)

Tasks

We are looking for a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Engineer on middle to senior level, ideally from the process industry, with proven branch-specific skills and work experience. You will be part of the Equipment Engineering department and work on various packaged units for green hydrogen production. Packaged units consist of different components that are linked together to fulfill a defined function within a process system (e.g., water treatment, seawater injection, desalination, crude oil distillation, etc.).

The role of the QA/QC Engineer includes supporting Equipment Engineers in providing high-quality technical solutions from third-party suppliers. This ensures that equipment or packaged units are delivered correctly, on time, and within budget.

• Quality Planning & Documentation: Development and implementation of project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality procedures (Method Statements) for ITM-owned equipment.
• Inspections & Tests: Conducting inspections, material testing, and quality control to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
• Audits & Compliance: Conducting internal and supplier audits, reviewing procedures, and ensuring that ITM internally and externally complies with approved plans and quality standards. As needed, supporting the entire company in audit or certification requirements, e.g., ISO 9001.
• Problem-Solving: Identifying non-conformities, investigating causes, and recommending or implementing corrective and preventive measures.
• Reporting & Communication: Preparing and submitting quality reports, maintaining records, and communicating quality problems and progress to project teams and stakeholders.
• Process Improvement: Analyzing data, tracking quality metrics, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and effectiveness of processes.
• Handover: Preparing and reviewing final inspection and test documentation before releasing supplier equipment for shipment and monitoring the creation of quality-related handover documents for ITM warehousing and production teams.

Key internal interfaces for the QA/QC Engineer are other engineering disciplines, project teams, procurement, compliance, warehousing, and production. Externally, the QA/QC Engineer serves as a point of contact for all quality-related questions with suppliers and customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or quality management
• More than 5 years of professional experience in a QA/QC role with responsibility for packaged units like chemical process packages, gas drying systems, cooling systems, water treatment packages, material handling systems, compressor packages, etc.
• Fundamental technical knowledge and deep understanding of construction norms, standards, quality principles, and branch-specific practices, e.g., manufacturing, construction
• Extensive experience in creating documentation like QCPs, ITPs, and Method Statements for equipment and packaged units
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication strength, reporting, and presentation competence to convey technical information to different target groups
• Able to define and apply risk analysis tools like FMEA or DFMEA
• Critical thinking with well-founded decision-making abilities
• Strong time management skills including prioritization and planning
• Detailed oriented, proactive, solution-oriented, and team-oriented
• Familiarity with technical systems and processes, e.g., Change Notes, NCRs
• Practical knowledge of the ISO 9001 quality management system
• Familiarity with production environments, including bill of materials (BOMs) and MRP systems
• Safe handling of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
• Travel readiness to international locations and workshops of suppliers
• Fluent German and English skills in writing and speaking

What is also advantageous

• PREFERRED professional experience in the EPC oil and gas industry, chemical industry, or process equipment industry for industrial gases
• Achieved or sought certifications from recognized certification bodies like ASQ, e.g., CQA, CQE, CQIA, CQT, etc.
• Able to understand, interpret, and create technical documents, e.g., P&ID, PFD, technical drawings, performance diagrams, data sheets, specifications
• Experience in handling 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably DraftSight and SolidWorks
