Project Engineer - Composite Materials
Job description
My client, a leader in the composite materials sector, designs and produces highly technological components for the mechanical, aerospace & defense, and medical sectors. Specialized in working with materials such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, and Kevlar, offers products with exceptional versatility and adaptability, customized according to customer specifications.
It's looking for a:
Role: Project Engineer - Composite Materials
Pay: To be defined based on experience
Location: Province of Bergamo
Contract: Permanent
Main Responsibilities
Within the R&D division, it will work closely with internal functions (CAD, Industrialization Product, Production, Laboratory, and Quality Assurance) and external clients throughout the product development cycle for composite materials in the aerospace & defense sector.
The main activities will be:
- Designing structures made of composite material (material, layup, molding) and selecting the most suitable production process to meet technical, functional, and cost requirements
- Generating input for design and validating it through structural analysis (FEM).
- Defining test campaigns dedicated to characterizing and qualifying composite materials and processing results
- Developing and managing qualification activities for systems installed on aircraft structures, defining Means of Compliance, and writing documentation related to planning, execution, and closure of activities in collaboration with the final customer
Requirements
- Prior experience in designing, analyzing structurally, and producing composite structures for the aerospace, automotive, and/or medical sectors. Experience with thermoplastic materials is considered a plus
- Familiarity with main production processes applied to composite materials (lamination, autoclave, RTM, filament winding, LPMC)
- Good operational knowledge of FEM calculation applied to composite structures (FEMAP)
- Familiarity with project management principles (e.g., risk analysis, planning, monitoring, and reporting of work packages)
- Familiarity with main quality management systems (EN 9100) for special processes (NADCAP) and main standards for environmental qualification testing (DO-160G and/or MIL-STD-810G)
- Familiarity with main CAD design software packages in the context of composite structures
Degree
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering with a focus on composite materials and/or lightweight structures
Other
- Operational autonomy and ability to work as the first point of contact with customers from a technical standpoint
- Good communication skills and ability to transmit information
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Good knowledge of the English language (written and spoken)
