Professional Supervisors - ECE, Primary & Secondary (Casual)

Job description

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Faculty of Arts and Education at the University of Auckland seeks expressions of interest from registered and fully certificated teachers from ECE, Primary or Secondary backgrounds to supervise student teachers when they are on practicum placements.

The work involves going to centres or schools to observe student teachers as they teach and building professional relationships with colleagues in centres/schools as well as with the student teachers. The duration and type of visit depends on the practicum placement and qualification, but all professional supervisors need to:

  • Be in email contact with the student teacher and centre/school colleagues about the placement
  • Observe teaching and provide feedback to student teachers
  • Guide the assessment process and recommend the final outcome of the practicum, providing a written report to the student teacher and the Faculty
  • Attend professional supervisor meetings / briefings

The Faculty will provide:

  • An hourly rate of $55, capped at a set number of hours per student, depending on the practicum
  • Mileage of NZD 1.17 per kilometre for the first 3,500 kilometres travelled in the income year April to March. Mileage in excess of 3,500 kilometres will be reimbursed at a rate of NZD 0.37 per kilometre.
  • Training in observation and reporting on student teachers’ practice
  • Written support materials and online support, including the support of a professional experience director for each practicum

If the applicant is someone who works fulltime in a centre/school, and their manager/principal/Board of Trustees agrees to them being released to do this work, we will pay the centre/school for release for the applicant while they are training and supervising, and pay the applicant their mileage directly.

The work is in blocks, ranging from 4-10 weeks, spread throughout the year. Casual supervisors do not have to be available for all blocks. Supervisors negotiate times and dates for centre/school visits directly with the centre/school, so there is some flexibility and control over work hours, which could vary between 5-9 hours per student. Professional supervisors need to be able to visit anywhere in the greater Auckland area.

Supervisors who live outside of Auckland/Anywhere else in the country are also needed to visit Online students on Practicum in their own city.
