Who You Are

You have 3-5 years of experience in the Java stack and are proficient in Spring Boot. You develop complex features independently from conception to release, think analytically, and actively contribute to architectural decisions. You use AI assistance (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT) as an established productivity tool – not only for generating code but also for complex refactorings, architectural discussions, and debugging – while taking full responsibility for the quality, security, and traceability of the solutions. You work self-organized, communicate with stakeholders at eye level, and enjoy supporting less experienced developers in their growth.

Plunet GmbH, with locations in Berlin, Würzburg, and New York, develops and sells the business and workflow management software “Plunet BusinessManager” – one of the world's leading management solutions for the translation and localization industry. Our clients are leading translation agencies, government organizations and NGOs, as well as large international industrial and service companies.

Responsibilities

• Development & Architecture: You design and implement complex, scalable backend solutions with Spring Boot, including configuration of security mechanisms and integration of third-party libraries. You help shape technical solutions in our software architecture.
• Quality Assurance: You conduct code reviews and ensure comprehensive test coverage with JUnit, Mockito, and SpringBootTest – including complex integration tests.
• Legacy & Modernization: You refactor existing code and modernize core components (Main Classes) without compromising system stability.
• Databases: You optimize database queries and designs (MySQL/MSSQL) and advancedly use Hibernate as an ORM tool for complex mapping scenarios.
• Knowledge Transfer: You are an active member of our Communities of Practice (CoPs), lead them when necessary, and mentor junior developers in onboarding and professional development.
• Integration: You integrate the Plunet BusinessManager with external systems and work closely with Product Specialists.
• AI Integration: You effectively use AI tools for development tasks, critically validate generated code for clean code, security, and performance, and help establish best practices for AI usage within the team.

Qualifications

• Experience: 3-5 years of professional software development with a focus on backend/Java.
• Java Advanced: Advanced knowledge of Design Patterns, Multithreading, Concurrency, and current Java versions.
• Spring Boot: Experience in developing complex, scalable applications; proficient in security configuration and external API integration.
• Software Testing: Advanced level in unit and integration tests with JUnit, Mockito, and SpringBootTest; experience with test automation.
• Databases: Advanced SQL knowledge (MySQL, MSSQL), query optimization, and proficient use of Hibernate.
• Tooling: Proficient with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern IDEs (IntelliJ, VSCode).
• AI Assistance Professional: Experienced in using AI coding assistance for complex development scenarios; ability for effective prompt engineering; critical evaluation of AI suggestions regarding architectural patterns, security risks, and data privacy; awareness of limitations and hallucinations.
• Clean Code: You actively live Clean Code principles and help others improve.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills for analyzing complex requirements and designing efficient solutions; excellent self-organization (prioritization, time management); excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with architects and stakeholders; willingness to mentor junior developers and share knowledge.
• Languages: Very good English skills (B2+), German is a plus.

Nice-to-haves (Additional Activities & Skills)

• Security: Experience with analysis and remediation of security vulnerabilities in dependencies (OWASP Dependency-Check, Security Management).
• DevOps/Tooling: Knowledge in Liquibase, SonarQube, GitLab Administration, or Docker.
• Performance: Experience with performance analysis (Thread Dumps, Heap Dumps) and load tests.
• Fullstack Perspective: Basic knowledge in Angular, TypeScript, or .NET.
• Methodology: Experience with agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban) as an active team player.
• Training: You create presentations and training sessions for other developers to disseminate specific knowledge.
