Production Manager

Job description

The Production Manager is first and foremost a manufacturing leader. Highly present on the shop floor, this role drives daily operations, optimizes manufacturing processes, and mobilizes teams to deliver safe, efficient, profitable production of superior quality products.

The Director is fully accountable for results, equipment performance, operational discipline, and workforce development. This is a highly visible, action-oriented role, deeply rooted in the realities of industrial manufacturing.

Manufacturing Performance & Results

  • Manufacture products in the most efficient, productive, and cost-effective manner, maximizing all available resources (labor, equipment, raw materials).

  • Review daily performance indicators (productivity, quality, costs, machine efficiency, scrap) and take immediate corrective action on the floor.

  • Identify bottlenecks, losses, downtime, and inefficiencies, and implement quick, sustainable improvements.

  • Optimize machine performance and production lines to meet and exceed targets.

  • Actively contribute to the business plan and take full ownership of production results.

  • Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining a strong customer-focused mindset.

Shop-Floor Leadership & Communication

  • Lead 4 production plants located on the same site, with a workforce of over 70 employees.

  • Be a visible, accessible, and hands-on leader, recognized as credible and influential.

  • Act as a positive change agent and ambassador of Techo-Bloc’s values.

  • Maintain close collaboration with Maintenance, Logistics, Fleet, HR, and Customer Service to ensure seamless and profitable execution.

  • Clearly communicate expectations, implement policies, and enforce operational discipline.

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and development of production teams.

  • Build an autonomous, accountable, and engaged workforce; recognize strong performance and address underperformance promptly.

  • Lead by example, inspire teams, and foster a positive, performance-driven work environment.

Planning & Operational Coordination

  • Work closely with Planning to maximize line efficiency
(changeover reduction, wet vs. dry production, pavers vs. wall products, etc.).

  • Coordinate with Maintenance to schedule repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance at optimal times.

  • Plan and share resources to increase productivity while reducing costs.

  • In collaboration with HR, develop training programs, succession plans, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

  • Identify key talent and support their development into future leaders.

Monitoring, Control & Continuous Improvement

  • Use production data to improve end-to-end manufacturing processes, from raw materials to finished goods.

  • Reduce waste, scrap, downtime, and process variability through structured continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain strict cost and budget control prior to decision-making.

  • Ensure superior product quality through constant shop-floor presence and regular inspections.

  • Verify that operational and visual checklists are completed daily and that equipment inspections are consistently performed.

Health & Safety

  • Actively promote safe behaviors in accordance with the company’s health and safety program.

  • Maintain a safe, disciplined, and compliant work environment.

  • Ensure compliance with all CNESST (OHS) requirements and co-chair the Health & Safety Committee.

  • Take immediate action to address unsafe conditions and reinforce a strong safety culture.

Additional Role Requirements

  • 70% of the role is spent on the production floor, not behind a desk.

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday.

  • Flexibility required to work evenings, nights, or weekends as production needs dictate.
