We are looking for a Product Engineer (m/f/d) to strengthen our Tech Team at Buying Labs – ideally at our Hamburg location or, if it's a good fit technically and personally, also remotely. In this position, you will combine solid technical skills with a strong product mindset. You will develop tools and features using AI that create real added value for our users and our company. You will be responsible for features holistically – from defining the scope and conception through development and deployment to successful launch and usage. In every phase, you will use AI to develop smarter solutions faster.

This position is aimed at people who enjoy building things and for whom the impact of their work is important: people who understand both the user's perspective and the underlying business processes, can clearly define the required development scope, and can subsequently successfully implement the planned solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Holistic Product Development: You are responsible for features from the initial concept to deployment in the production environment and with real users – not just the code. You deliver complete solutions that create measurable business value. You will concretize requirements, define technical solution approaches, and implement features in both the frontend and backend. Quality is considered from the outset and ensured through appropriate tests.
• Product Thinking and User Centricity: You understand the needs of our users and the underlying business processes, and derive from them what should be developed and why. You transform product ideas and requirements from various stakeholders into compelling solutions that are actually used.
• Integration of AI into our Products: You will conceptualize and integrate AI-powered features into our platform. This goes beyond simply using programming assistants; it involves developing concrete AI solutions for real challenges faced by our users. You will identify potential where AI can accelerate workflows, improve decisions, or open up entirely new possibilities.
• Data Modeling and Scalable Systems: You will develop robust data models and scalable architectures that form a reliable foundation for our products. You will convert recurring tasks into reusable components – for example, UI components, data import processes, or AI pipelines. This will allow each new tool to be developed faster than the previous one.
• Collaboration with Stakeholders and Driving Adoption: You will collaborate with stakeholders at all levels – from management to operational teams – to align priorities and drive the successful launch and adoption of new tools and features. You will communicate technical concepts understandably and create organizational acceptance for your solutions.
• Continuous Improvement: You will gather feedback early, iterate on solutions in short cycles, and continuously improve your work. You will stay up-to-date on new technologies and best engineering practices so that our tools and systems remain one step ahead of business requirements and our platform stays competitive.

Nice to have:

• Experience with tools and technologies related to Large Language Models (LLMs), including provider APIs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini, agent and tool-use patterns like MCP, and evaluating output quality.
• Familiarity with vector search technologies, such as pgvector or comparable solutions.
• Hands-on experience with product analytics and observability tools like PostHog or Sentry to measure usage and drive adoption of new solutions.
• Experience with integrating ERP or operational systems, e.g., for orders, inventory, or master data.
• Professional background in e-commerce, wholesale, or within the B2B platform environment.
• Python skills for developing data tools, along with experience in Docker, GitHub Actions, and AWS.

Your Profile

• Completed Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Five to eight years of professional experience in software development, combined with a strong product understanding.
• Solid experience with TypeScript and modern React applications. Experience in backend development with Node.js, Express, or comparable technologies, REST APIs, and PostgreSQL, as well as practical SQL knowledge. The focus is on developing new applications with our modern tech stack of React 19, Vite, TypeScript, and Bun. Occasionally, you will also work on an existing JavaScript codebase.
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks and agentic AI systems, along with sound knowledge in data modeling and building scalable system architectures.
• Ability to work confidently and effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Hands-on experience with integrating AI into products, for example, in areas like structured data extraction, automation, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or agentic workflows – not just working with AI programming assistants.
• A strong sense of quality in engineering, and experience in developing reliable and maintainable products and securing them through appropriate testing.
• Strong product understanding: You understand both the business processes and the user's perspective – not just the code.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in collaborating with stakeholders at all levels and driving the successful launch and adoption of developed solutions.
• Proactive work approach with a high degree of personal responsibility, independence, and initiative in a dynamic environment.
• Fluent English is required; German language skills are a plus.
