Product Developer & Designer (Gymwear) (m/f/d)

True Direction is a young gym brand from Hamburg, founded by Paul, Jannis, and Sam. We are building a brand that originated from the gym community and belongs there. We are looking for someone who understands this direction and wants to help shape it.

A note in advance: It is important to us that you come from Hamburg or the surrounding area. Patterns, materials, and fits are difficult to assess via video call; you need to be able to hold the item in your hand for that. You don't have to be in the office every day, but being able to come by regularly would be great.

Your role: You will develop our products from the initial idea to production readiness, while also bringing your own design handwriting. With us, development and design are not in two departments, but in one person. In addition, you will contribute to the brand. Which products we will make next, where we are developing, what True Direction stands for.

Tasks

• Development of new gymwear products with streetwear influence, from sketch to finished item
• Selection and evaluation of fabrics and materials: elasticity, feel, shape retention, behavior after multiple washes
• Defining cuts and fits, evaluating samples, correction loops with producers
• Creating and maintaining Tech Packs, coordination with manufacturers and suppliers
• Design work on prints, color palettes, and details
• Contribution to product and brand direction

Qualifications

• Practical experience in product development at another brand, ideally gymwear, sportswear, or streetwear
• Understanding of gymwear: movement, fit, material under stress.
• A good eye for aesthetics in sports: You recognize what looks good and what just works, and you bring both together
• Confident in the process from Tech Pack to finished product, from a practical perspective
• Experience with producers and suppliers
• Your own professional opinion, which you also express if a material or a fit doesn't work

The last point is particularly important to us. We are not looking for pure execution, but for someone who is further along in their field than we are and tells us so.

What else you should know: We are a young company and partly still work accordingly. Much is created in the process, plans change, and sometimes a decision needs to be made faster than planned. Those who need fixed structures and long lead times will likely have little joy with it. Those who enjoy co-creation and like the pace will have quite a lot.
