Job description

Do you want to change the lives of millions of entrepreneurs in Europe?

Do you want to have a real impact and help shape the future of finance and accounting in Europe? Do you feel comfortable in a dynamic environment that relies on trust, responsibility, and speed? And do our design principles align with your idea of great user experiences?

Then Pennylane might be the right place for you – and you the right person for this role.

Our Vision

We are building the most popular Financial Operating System for small and medium-sized businesses in Europe.

Our goal is to relieve entrepreneurs of time-consuming tasks related to accounting and finance, while also giving them access to the most important financial information so they can make better decisions for their businesses.

At the same time, we support accounting firms in spending less time on repetitive tasks and focusing more on advising and supporting their clients.

More than 1,000,000 small and medium-sized businesses and over 6,500 accounting firms are already using Pennylane in France.

About Us

Pennylane is one of the fastest-growing FinTechs in France – and soon in Germany.

In just five years, we have:

  • established ourselves as an innovative accounting and financial platform for companies and accounting firms,

  • raised a total of 150 million euros in capital – from investors including Sequoia, the renowned Silicon Valley investor behind companies like Google, Facebook, Airbnb, Stripe, and PayPal,

  • grown our team from 7 founders to over 1,100 Pennylaners,

  • created an international company culture with more than 25 nationalities,

  • established a strong remote-first culture, where around 30% of our employees already work from anywhere in Europe,

  • gained the trust of thousands of customers and accounting firms and received excellent reviews.

Today, with a Glassdoor rating of 4.6/5, we are considered one of the most attractive employers in Europe.

Pennylane Germany

In just 1.5 years, our Germany team has grown from a single squad to over 40 employees in the areas of Product, Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing.

Our goal is to establish Pennylane as a permanent fixture in the German market. Together with innovative tax advisors and companies, we are further developing our product for the requirements of the German market and sustainably changing the way accounting and finance work in Germany.

As an independent market, we benefit from the support of our French teams while enjoying considerable freedom in shaping our goals, structures, processes, and products.

Design at Pennylane

Design is at the core of our mission. Our aspiration is to offer users a seamless, accessible, and inspiring product experience.

Our design team consists of over 40 Product Designers who work closely with Product and Engineering in interdisciplinary squads.

Autonomy, trust, and transparency form the foundation of our corporate culture and shape the daily work of our designers.

At Pennylane, design is not limited to creating interfaces. Designers accompany the entire process – from problem definition through research and testing to solution implementation.

Your Role

We are looking for a Product Designer with extensive experience in B2B product design to actively contribute to the further development of our product in Germany.

If you enjoy solving real user problems, working in a collaborative environment, and have a genuine interest in understanding user behavior and business goals, you will find many like-minded people at Pennylane.

What You Bring

  • You understand both user needs and business requirements and can translate insights from user research, market analyses, and data into pragmatic solutions.

  • You have experience with complex digital products and systems, for example, with multiple modules, extensive features, or complex data structures.

  • You work closely with developers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders like Sales or Support, and can integrate technical constraints and business goals into your work.

  • You communicate clearly, constructively question existing assumptions, and can convincingly advocate for your solution approaches.

  • You are fluent in German and English. User interviews are regularly conducted in German.

What Awaits You at Pennylane

Within the first month

  • You will get to know our company, our teams, and our vision during onboarding.

  • You will gain deep insight into our product as well as the world of accounting and finance.

  • You will become familiar with our product and design organization, our methods, and our culture.

  • You will meet the people you will work with daily – both within the Germany team and in the international environment.

Within the first three months

  • You will conduct discovery workshops and user research and analyze data, user feedback, and business requirements.

  • Together with your Product Manager, you will be responsible for the continuous development of your product area.

  • You will develop solutions with the appropriate level of detail – from initial concepts to high-fidelity prototypes.

  • You will actively contribute your experience to the team, provide feedback to colleagues, and work on cross-functional topics.

Within the first six months

  • You will actively support the expansion of our team and participate in the recruitment process.

  • You will observe current UX and UI trends and bring in best practices from the international tech world.

And Beyond

Both our design team and our activities in Germany will continue to grow.

This means for you:

  • Opportunities to hire, coach, and potentially lead new designers.

  • More responsibility for strategic projects.

  • The chance to actively shape and further develop processes, tools, and best practices.

What We Offer You

  • Work from our office in the heart of Berlin, from our location in Hamburg, from our offices in Paris, or from any WeWork location in Europe.

  • With a full remote contract, you will receive a budget for your home office as well as a monthly allowance for coworking spaces.

  • In addition to 25 vacation days, you will receive an additional 8 to 13 free days annually.

  • Access to Busuu to improve your English or learn a new language.

  • State-of-the-art Apple hardware for your daily work.

  • A vibrant community with joint sports activities such as football, running, or climbing.

  • Regular team events, after-work evenings, and our popular rooftop drinks in Berlin.

  • An annual company offsite – most recently, we spent time together at Center Parcs and had a great time.

Our Application Process

  1. Portfolio Review

  2. Initial call with Sonia or Barbara (Technical Recruiting) – 30 minutes

  3. Interview with two members of our Design team – 45 to 60 minutes

  4. Take-home assessment including presentation and review with two other designers – 60 minutes

  5. Final interview with our Chief Product Officer and the Head of Product Germany – 60 minutes
