Procurement Manager - Packaging Materials

OVERVIEW The Procurement Manager - Packaging Materials and consumables is responsible for developing and managing sourcing strategies for all packaging-related requirements within the organisation. This role ensures that packaging materials are procured at the optimal balance of cost, quality, and service, while supporting sustainability objectives and maintaining strong supplier relationships. The position requires deep knowledge of packaging materials, market dynamics, and effective negotiations skills to achieve the best possible outcomes. RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop and implement sourcing strategies for packaging materials to meet the company's needs. * Manage and optimise the procurement of packaging materials, including but not limited to corrugated cardboard, plastics, films, labels, and closures. * Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, understand market trends, and assess pricing and availability of packaging materials. * Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules. * Manage supplier relationships, ensuring performance and adherence to contracts. * Monitor and control packaging material costs, seeking opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering. * Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., manufacturing, marketing, R&D) to understand packaging needs and specifications. * Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and sustainability goals. * Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to packaging materials. * Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, performance, and cost savings. * Manage and develop the packaging procurement team. * Oversee inventory levels of packaging materials to ensure adequate supply while minimizing waste and obsolescence. * Develop and maintain a vendor qualification process. * Ensure alignment with all relevant quality, environmental and health and safety requirements. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field. * Proven experience (5+ years) in procurement, specifically within the packaging industry. * Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and market dynamics. * Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sourcing strategies. * Experience in supplier relationship management. * Understanding of cost analysis and budgeting. * Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., ISO, FDA). * Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite. * Experience in the food and beverage industry preferred. * APICS or similar certification preferred.
