Principal Software Engineer

Ripjar specialises in the development of software and data products that help governments and organisations combat serious financial crime. Our technology is used to identify criminal activity such as money laundering and terrorist financing, and enables organisations to enforce sanctions at scale to help combat rogue entities and state actors. We are a remote first team, with a head office based in Cheltenham. This position is open to UK wide candidates. If you are based near Cheltenham, you are welcome to visit the office. You will be joining a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and designers, to deliver and maintain high quality software that enables our customers to fulfil their missions. What you will be doing: * Work on complex and challenging technical problems * Design and implement scalable and maintainable solutions * Write clean, well-tested code * Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and designers * Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback * Mentor junior engineers * Contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering practices What we are looking for: * Significant experience as a Software Engineer * Strong understanding of software design principles * Experience with a variety of programming languages (we primarily use Python and Java) * Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) * Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) * Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) * Experience with data processing and analytics (Spark, Hadoop) * Experience with DevOps practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code) * Excellent communication and collaboration skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team It would be great if you have: * Experience in the financial crime domain * Experience with big data technologies * Experience with machine learning * Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) Benefits: * Competitive salary * 25 days holiday + bank holidays * Flexible working hours * Pension scheme * Private health insurance * Life insurance * Cycle to work scheme * Training and development opportunities * Regular social events
