We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team in Auckland. As a hands-on Principal Software Engineer, you’ll shape the design and architecture of Lightspeed Retail’s core systems, powering thousands of merchants worldwide. You’ll lead by example, building innovative solutions that solve real customer problems while elevating our engineering practices. What you’ll be doing: * Architecting, designing, and implementing new features and improvements to our core systems. * Providing technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. * Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define and deliver high-quality solutions. * Contributing to the technical vision and strategy for Lightspeed Retail. * Ensuring the scalability, performance, and reliability of our systems. * Participating in code reviews and mentoring other engineers. * Staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in software engineering. What you need to succeed: * 8+ years of experience in software development. * Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles. * Experience with building and scaling complex systems. * Experience with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Ruby, Python, Java, etc.). * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers. * Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). * Experience with Agile development methodologies. Bonus points: * Experience with e-commerce or retail systems. * Experience with microservices architecture. * Experience with DevOps practices. What's in it for you? Come make an impact!
