Job description

This role leads and manages the optometry service in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, ensuring smooth delivery of eye care services across hospital and community settings in a new hospital environment. It includes planning, daily operations, and overseeing the clinical work of all optometry staff while maintaining high standards of patient care. The role works closely with, and reports to, the Head of Department and the Primary Eye Care Lead Consultant. Responsibilities Clinic Operations: • Manage and coordinate the delivery of eye care services across hospital and community settings. • Ensure effective communication and collaboration between optometry staff, other healthcare professionals, and patients. • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the management of patient records, clinical data, and administrative tasks. • Oversee the maintenance of high standards of patient care, including adherence to professional guidelines and protocols. • Collaborate with other departments within the hospital to ensure seamless integration of eye care services. Clinical Work: • Provide expert clinical advice and guidance to optometry staff on patient care and treatment options. • Develop and maintain expertise in current best practices and evidence-based medicine in optometry. • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient consultations, treatments, and outcomes. Leadership: • Lead and manage a team of optometrists, providing guidance, support, and mentorship as needed. • Develop and implement strategies for staff development, training, and professional growth. • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes collaboration, respect, and open communication. • Represent the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in internal and external meetings and forums. • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
