Job Title: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role Salary: Circa £55,000 What you’ll be doing: Lead the end-to-end development of complex fluid systems, shaping designs that meet demanding performance and environmental requirements Create and review high-value engineering deliverables – for schematics and P&IDs to calculations, system descriptions and specifications Act as a technical authority, mentoring and coaching team members and providing expert advice on a variety of mechanical engineering challenges Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems Manage risks and ensure compliance with design standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements. Your skills and experience: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field Extensive experience in the design and development of complex mechanical systems, ideally within the defense, aerospace or a highly regulated industry. Proven ability to lead and manage engineering projects, from concept to implementation Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
