About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Legal Counsel – Employment Relations to join their dynamic and high-performing team. This permanent full-time role will be based in Auckland and reports to the Head of Employment Relations.
As Principal Legal Counsel, you will be a thought leader, providing high-quality legal and strategic advice on employment law and industrial relations matters. You will play a key role in managing legal risks, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement within the team.
In this role, you can expect a flexible and supportive work environment, with amazing benefits! There is some flexibility as to how this role will be comprised so whilst the preference is for a permanent fulltime appointment, those interested in 4 days per week, school hours or even a role on a fixed term basis should enquire. There is much to discuss!

What we’re looking for
- A lawyer with minimum 10 years’ post-admission experience, with employment litigation experience, who holds (or is entitled to hold) a current NZ practising certificate.
- Strong expertise in employment law and industrial relations.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships and deliver customer-focused solutions.
- A proactive, professional, and resilient approach to work.
