Principal HVAC Design Engineer

Job Title: Principal HVAC Design Engineer Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role Salary: Circa £55,000 What you’ll be doing: Lead the end-to-end development of cutting-edge HVAC systems, ensuring they meet demanding performance, safety, and environmental standards Create and review high-impact engineering artefacts – from specifications and P&IDs to calculations and 3D models Drive the technical direction of HVAC projects, providing expert guidance and mentorship to junior engineers Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines Oversee and approve engineering designs, calculations, and technical documentation Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices Manage and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle Contribute to the continuous improvement of HVAC design processes and standards What we’re looking for: Proven experience in HVAC design, preferably within a complex engineering environment Strong technical proficiency in HVAC design software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, and specialist modelling software In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including chillers, air handling units, ventilation systems, and controls A solid understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations, and codes (e.g., CIBSE, ASHRAE) Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience) Benefits: You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed share scheme.
