Job description

Job Title: Principal Engineer – Product Safety Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Broad Oak – we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role. Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience What you’ll be doing: Develop, implement and maintain the Project Safety Management System within a Systems Engineering framework Produce and manage Project Safety Management Plans & Justification Plans Lead Whole Boat Safety Assessments (WBSA) and produce associated documentation including Safety Cases and Safety justifications Manage, influence, and support all phases of the project lifecycle from concept to in-service Support and advise the design teams on safety requirements, and contribute to the hazard identification, analysis, and risk mitigation processes Undertake safety-related tasks such as Functional Safety Assessments, HAZOPs, and Fault Tree Analysis Lead the identification of safety related issues, and provide recommendations for resolution Provide safety input into design and engineering decisions Support the development and maintenance of safety related standards and procedures. This is a very varied role, and the successful candidate will be expected to work across multiple projects and project stages and interface with internal and external stakeholders. Your skills and experience: Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar) Extensive experience in a safety engineering role, preferably within a complex engineering environment Demonstrable experience of applying safety management principles and techniques throughout the project lifecycle Proven experience in developing and implementing safety management systems, safety plans, and safety cases Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., DEF STAN, IEC 61508, etc.) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team What else do you need to know?
