Internship - Political Data Engineering (m/f/d)

• Conception and implementation of creative data products for clients from the political environment, including parties, associations, ministries, and NGOs
• Data collection via APIs: Development and maintenance of scripts that retrieve data from social media APIs and ad libraries
• Contribution to existing data pipelines: Implementation and testing of transformation models (dbt/SQL)
• Data Quality & Monitoring: Regular monitoring of ongoing pipelines, tracking errors and anomalies, onboarding new clients, documentation
• Dashboards & Recurring Analyses: Building and maintaining dashboards as well as creating recurring reports
• Ad-hoc Analyses: Answering specific data questions from the team - from querying to understandable presentation of the results

• Programming skills in Python as well as basic knowledge of SQL, experience with R is desirable
• Interest in data infrastructure and initial exposure to technologies such as PostgreSQL, dbt, Dagster, or Ansible. What is more important to us than specific tool knowledge is the ability and interest to learn new systems
• Experience in data collection via APIs
• Basic understanding of good code design, especially reusability, maintainability, clear responsibilities, and meaningful abstraction
• Ability to design technical solutions that not only solve a single use case but are as flexible as possible and usable for further projects
• Conscious and critical handling of large language models like Claude Code, as well as the ability to use AI specifically for learning, code design, and developing technical solution approaches
• Ability to question and think through AI-generated suggestions rather than simply accepting them
• Interest in current political topics and the digital political discourse
• Interest in Computational Social Science (CSS) and quantitative political consulting
• Native-level German, very good English.
