Who we are:

Simi has been capturing human movement for over 30 years, initially for Olympic athletes, biomechanics labs and professional sports teams, today for the vehicle interior. As a 100% subsidiary of ZF LIFETEC, one of the world's leading providers of passive safety systems (airbags, seatbelts, steering wheels), we develop camera-based occupant monitoring: an AI that understands who is in the vehicle, what position they are taking and how occupants can be optimally protected.

Why this is important:

With the Euro-NCAP protocols 2026, the vehicle interior will become part of the safety assessment: correct seatbelt usage, out-of-position detection, child detection (CPD) and occupant classification for adaptive restraint systems. Simi's software delivers exactly this occupant understanding, so that adaptive airbag and seatbelt systems can adapt to the size, posture and seating position of every person.

What we can offer you:

You will be part of a small, agile and young team and accompany our entire development process - from idea and prototyping to data preparation for ML and evaluation of neural networks.

You support the prototyping and data team with your own task packages and take on real responsibility from the start.

Tasks

Your tasks include:

• Organisation and implementation of data collection in vehicles using our sensors and internal Python tools
• Design and production of hardware for prototypes
• Preliminary preparation of vehicles for data recordings
• Organisation and maintenance of the workshop and equipment
• Transportation of vehicles between different locations
• Testing our applications, cameras and electronic components
• Annotation of image and video data
• Further development of internal software: scripts, bug fixes and features

Qualification

• Enrolled student in engineering, mechatronics, computer science, sports science, physics or a similar MINT field (required)
• High work standards and a meticulous, reliable working style
• Hands-on mentality
• You are not afraid of tools and a small workshop
• Driving license class B (required)
• Basic knowledge of Python
• CAD experience is a plus
• New to prototyping, data, ML and the automotive industry
• Safe English; German optional
