As part of the "Horizon Europe EMPOWR" project, we are recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in augmented reality. Under the responsibility of Guillaume MOREAU and in collaboration with the members of the INUIT team, the main tasks of the position are:

1. Define a design space for displaying relevant information for complex tasks

2. Build the adaptive augmented reality tool and its connectors with other software components developed within the project

3. Prepare the deployment of the adaptive augmented reality tool for the two industrial use cases of the project

4. Participate in ancillary activities of the EMPOWR project

1. Define a design space for displaying relevant information for complex tasks

• Collect augmentation tasks from partners

• Build the augmentation design space (where, when, what, how)

2. Build the adaptive augmented reality tool and its connectors with other software components developed within the project

• Develop an augmented reality tool using generic components

• Implement the interface for utilizing the design space

• Define interfaces with other software components of the project

3. Prepare the deployment of the adaptive augmented reality tool for the two industrial use cases

• Participate in the detailed specification of the use cases

• Define specific requirements for the augmented reality module

• Participate in and supervise the development of their implementation

4. Participate in ancillary activities of the EMPOWR project

• Participate in the writing of deliverables

• Attend project general assemblies and technical meetings

• Write scientific publications

The Project

The main objective of the EMPOWR project is to introduce a multi-layered augmentation ecosystem that will transform industrial workplaces into adaptive and intelligent environments, where workers are no longer just operators, but enhanced decision-makers. This ecosystem will foster human-machine collaboration through two key technologies: an adaptive augmented reality tool, accompanied by a cognitive AI companion, the Adaptive Learning Manufacturing Assistant (ALMA ), an AI system based on language models (LLM) that will act as the intelligence of the industrial workplace.

The Team

The INUIT (Natural Immersive User Interaction) team in the Computer Science department conducts research on mixed reality interaction by designing virtual and augmented reality systems, proposing models and metaphors evaluated through user experiments. Application areas include the Future of Industry, Health, Defense, and Cultural Heritage.

The INUIT team is responsible for the design and development of the adaptive augmented reality tool. This tool will integrate an augmented reality design space intended to support multiple forms of information display via augmentations. In practice, the display will rely on elements provided by ALMA as well as physiological signals monitored in workers. The AR tool will be deployed in two industrial use cases, and user studies will be conducted for validation.

Minimum required education level and/or experience:

• PhD in computer science obtained less than 3 years before the hiring date

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience:

• Augmented and virtual reality (required)

• Advanced C++/C# programming (required)

• Data visualization (desirable)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The hired person will be part of the operational team of the EMPOWR project. As such, they will be required to travel occasionally (2 to 4 times a year) within Europe to participate in project general assemblies and technical meetings. Participation in the writing of deliverables is required.

REMUNERATION INDICATIONS:

💰 Indicative remuneration: €35,800 gross per year, depending on profile and experience (reduced employee contributions in the public sector).
