Job description
Joining Mines Saint-Étienne means committing to an institution where science and innovation build a more sustainable future. An institution of excellence where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to meeting tomorrow's challenges.
Ranked among the top engineering schools in France and recognized worldwide, our school, a member of the Institut Mines-Télécom, trains the talents of tomorrow while actively contributing to meeting major industrial, digital, and environmental challenges. With us, you will join a community of 500 employees, 2500 students, and participate in an ambitious project: combining academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and positive societal impact.
The Institut Mines-Télécom unites major French engineering schools around key industrial, digital, energy, and environmental challenges. With its 8 public Grandes Écoles and 2 affiliated schools, it is the leading public institute dedicated to engineers and managers. Together, we envision and build a sustainable future by training the actors who will shape the transitions of tomorrow.
🎯 What we expect from you:
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be at the heart of our research and innovation missions, assigned to the Provence Microelectronics Center, Bioelectronics Department. Within this department, you will contribute to interdisciplinary research for scientific and societal innovation.
Entity:
The Bioelectronics Department of the Provence Microelectronics Center develops innovative technologies at the interface of electronics, materials, and life sciences.
Located in Gardanne, in the heart of the Aix-Marseille region, it boasts a state-of-the-art research environment and a fully equipped cleanroom.
Its teams operate in an international and interdisciplinary context, in close collaboration with academic and clinical partners.
Strategic Objective of Recruitment:
To strengthen the research capabilities of the Bioelectronics Department with a postdoctoral researcher capable of developing a new generation of flexible organic optical sensors for calcium imaging.
This recruitment will contribute to advancing a technology with high potential at the intersection of microelectronics, bioelectronics, and neuroscience.
Main Missions:
o You will develop and micro-fabricate miniaturized flexible organic photodetectors (OPDs) for the creation of high-resolution multi-pixel arrays.
o You will develop flexible readout electronics based on field-effect transistors (FETs) for amplifying and measuring the very low photocurrents generated by the OPDs.
o You will study the physical limits associated with the miniaturization of photodetectors and establish design rules by analyzing, in particular, dark current, noise, detectivity, and dynamic range.
o You will perform electrical and optical characterization of the OPD-FET platform under illumination conditions representative of calcium imaging.
o You will analyze the performance of the devices to optimize their integration into high-density flexible arrays for neural imaging.
o You will disseminate your work through scientific publications and international communications.
o Your ability to work autonomously in an interdisciplinary environment and to bridge the gap between fundamental research, technological development, and health applications will be essential for success.
🔍 What we are looking for:
You hold a:
Master's degree (Bac + 5) or equivalent, and hold a doctorate (or are about to obtain one), preferably in electrical engineering, microelectronics, biomedical engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.
And ideally:
· Holder of a doctoral degree
· With 3 years of experience in organic electronics
· Junior candidates accepted: yes
· Significant experience in microfabrication and cleanroom work
· Proven experience in organic electronics and/or photodetector fabrication
· Demonstrated expertise in electrical and optical characterization
· Proficiency in English (C1 level) and Matlab or Python for data analysis
Your additional assets:
· Experience in organic electronics and/or solar cells
· Experience in sensor characterization or optoelectronic devices
· Strong interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of electronics, materials, and life sciences
· Experience in an international research environment would be appreciated
