Port & Quality Control Manager

NYK Australia Pty Ltd is currently searching to fill a full time Port & Quality Control Manager position located in Newcastle.

The tasks of this role include the following:

• Organise and control the quality systems for the operation of NYK’s coal carrier vessels at the coal terminal at the Newcastle Port to ensure the loading and discharge is accomplished safely, with minimum damage and maximum efficiency.
• Supervise and assist the vessels' de-ballasting operation during loading to meet terminal's quality performance criteria and to minimise remaining ballast water
• Assist/Support General Manager in ensuring coal carrier vessels efficient & cost-effective operation in Oceania
• Ensure and monitor effective safety audits are carried out jointly with NCIG/PWCS and individually at times and maintain records of such audits
• Ensure reporting systems are in place to record and monitor all damage occurrences and to provide data for the development of interventions to prevent damage occurrences in the future
• Gather and provide information about Hunter Valley Coal Chan movement, including gather information which may affect the coal chain movement, such as stoppages of mines operation, railway movement and terminal operation
• Ensure and take adequate measures to maintain agreed damage KPIs with NYK's stevedores

Skills and experience required for the position:

• Bachelor degree in Science of Marine Transportation
• 3-4 years' experience as Senior Officer on bulk carriers and in- depth knowledge of loading of cargo vessels, including supervisory functions
• Completion of training courses in Advance Fire Fighting Container Cargo Operation, Safety Officer, Shipboard Hazards Simulation & Situational Awareness
