About the role:
Aris Zinc Group is looking for a Policy Officer who can turn ideas and evidence into clear, practical policy documents that support better outcomes for community.
This role suits someone who enjoys writing, research and problem solving, and who is comfortable working with government frameworks, legislation and internal policies, with previous government experience. The position is Canberra based and requires working onsite in the office.
Both contract and permanent positions are available.
Key responsibilities
- Research issues and gather information from legislation, reports and stakeholders
- Draft, review and update policies, procedures, guidelines and briefing papers
- Translate complex information into clear, accessible documents for different audiences
- Assist with consultations, workshops and meetings, including note taking and follow up actions
- Help monitor compliance with policies and support implementation across the organisation
- Use IT systems to manage versions, track feedback and store documents correctly
- Contribute to continuous improvement of policy templates, style and processes
- Experience in government, policy, community services or a related field, or strong interest and transferable skills
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail, with the ability to produce clear and well structured documents
- Good research skills and confidence working with legislation, standards and data
- Confidence using IT tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams and document management systems
- Ability to build respectful relationships with First Nations peoples and communities
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and self determination
- Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines
- A collaborative working style and willingness to take feedback and learn
- Proven experience in policy development or implementation
- Experience writing briefing notes, cabinet style documents or similar
- Experience supporting or leading consultations with internal and external stakeholders
- SFIA - Content design and authoring (INCA) - L4
- DSS - 5.3 Quality Management: Policy and Practices - L3
