Job description
Due to current geopolitical developments, years of budget cuts, and the rapidly increasing digitalization, the Defence is facing great challenges. To meet these challenges, it is essential to scale up and accelerate the creation of value for the end-user. This also applies to the COC2 and I&V department, where innovation is necessary to meet the increasing forms of threats. Outdated processes and ways of working need to be revised and make way for new forms of collaboration and innovative solutions. This requires pioneer work: shifting gears to a higher speed in a system that has long had too little room to innovate. Do you feel drawn to the societal component of Defence, the complexity of the playing field, and the opportunity to realize innovation and create value with intrinsically motivated colleagues? And do you get energy from translating ideas into workable IT solutions that really matter? Then read on quickly! As a Platform Engineer within the subdomain Grens & Migratie, you are responsible for, among other things:

  • managing and expanding development and test environments,
  • rolling out new software versions to internal systems.

You manage configuration files and tooling such as Argo, Git, and Helm, and ensure a well-organized CI/CD process, including release management and the corresponding templates. Additionally, you guide migrations to new development environments, function as a sparring partner for the System Architect on technical issues, and ensure infrastructure technology further by setting up monitoring dashboards. Finally, you have a strong focus on automating processes, improving the reliability of systems, which contributes to a stable foundation for the various development teams as part of the Agile Release Train.

Within subdomain Grens & Migratie, multiple internal development teams are building the necessary IT functionality for various European regulations and the IT systems used at the border. These work activities are combined as much as possible based on the SAFe framework, combined with the Agile mindset. You are part of a multidisciplinary Scrum team and work intensively with your direct colleagues, both within and outside the team. You work proactively on knowledge sharing and by mapping and recording your work, you contribute to the continuity of the department.
