To become a drone pilot, it's being part of the evolution of jobs within the armies. As a professional pilot, your activity consists in ensuring security through an MQ-9 Reaper drone. This type of aircraft is used during various missions such as surveillance, intelligence, and engagement in distant strikes on fixed and mobile targets on the ground, as well as in the airspace. Being a drone pilot means becoming a pioneer in an activity that is expanding rapidly.

A salary equal between men and women at the same post and hierarchical level.

The drone pilot training includes :

- Initial military training, English, and aeronautical theory at Salon-de-Provence ;
- Theoretical instruction for navigators at CFAMI (Centre de formation aéronautique militaire initial) at Salon-de-Provence ;
- Initial flight training on Cirrus SR 20 at Salon-de-Provence ;
- 6 months to prepare for operational certification to pilot the MQ-9 Reaper drone at Cognac.

You will follow a paid training :
In civilian life, entering training or retraining professionally is a financial challenge. In the Air and Space Army, you receive your pilot's salary, well before obtaining your certification, from the start of initial training.

Becoming a drone pilot may lead you to perform the following missions :

- Being a professional pilot of the MQ-9 Reaper aircraft ;
- Conducting surveillance and intelligence operations for the airbase or command center during external operations (OPEX) ;
- Deploying air power to ensure the safety of ground forces intervening by neutralizing fixed or mobile targets ;
- Adopting effective communication with pilots and ground professionals.
