Make a Home, Make a Difference - Become Caregivers in Our 12 Month Pilot * Dunedin and Waikato locations – 12-month pilot * Accommodation, vehicle, utilities, and phone/internet, use of a car provided * Generous allowances to cover things that tamariki (children) need * Work alongside care staff, dedicated supervisor, and whānau support worker as part of the care team * Regular supervision provided * On-going training and development opportunities * Home help / cleaner provided * Regular time off If you are a couple or two people willing to live and work together, and most importantly if you have a passion for caring for tamariki and rangatahi, and would like to provide short-term, live-in care for small groups of tamariki and rangatahi, this opportunity, based in Dunedin or Waikato, could be right for you. Until tamariki can be reconnected with their whānau, you will have an important part to play in assisting them on their journey by providing responsive, nurturing, safe and consistent care. As the Caregivers of the home you will be doing everyday care tasks, such as daily routines, cooking, transporting to school or extra curricula activities, helping with homework, shopping for clothes, watching children’s sports etc., as well as doing fun things, like playing games, going on outings and hosting visits with whānau. These things make the home a whānau-like environment. Caregivers in Oranga Tamariki are volunteers. As volunteers, you will receive allowances to meet the needs of tamariki and rangatahi. Mō te tūnga | About the role Caregivers care for up to 5 tamariki in a home which is provided by Oranga Tamariki. Tamariki may be siblings, they may have special needs, they may be a variety of ages but they all have a need for acceptance, nurturing and belonging. all have a need It is envisaged that caregivers will make the home their own and create a warm, welcoming environment where tamariki feel it is their home for the time they are there. Caregivers are encouraged to actively welcome and include tamariki’s whānau as much as possible, fostering connection and belonging. Caregivers have regular time off, supported by relieving care staff during those periods. Each tamaiti has an individual plan outlining their needs and goals, and caregivers are a vital part of a wider team that includes social workers, specialised care staff, whānau support workers, supervisors, and other professionals. Tamariki may stay for one night or for longer periods, and each child has unique needs. The loving, safe environment caregivers provide plays an essential role in helping tamariki feel secure, cared for, and supported to thrive and reach their goals. Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring Most importantly the tamariki require support from people who: * Can stay calm through difficult times * Can build and maintain positive relationships with tamariki and their whānau * Are willing to receive on-going training and support, including how to respond to individual needs and behaviours * Have a positive outlook – identifying and praising positive behaviours * Can establish and maintain fair boundaries * Have clear background checks (including police and medical) * Have a full driver’s licence * Are able to care for tamariki from a variety of cultural backgrounds Me pēhea te tuku tono | How to Apply This is not a typical kind of role - we are looking for some truly special people.
