Job description

Do you want to work in a supportive environment that moves fast? The 5th French provider in 10 years, Octopus Energy is a renewable energy provider that acts as a true spearhead for the electro-tech revolution.

How do we do it? We can't revolutionize the world by working like everyone else. We try not to take ourselves too seriously; here, we operate in an environment without too many processes or rules. The most important thing is not just to follow the movement, but to create it.

We don't want to create company clones. We want you, with your talents, your perspectives, and your unique skills.

Do you want to join a fast-growing company with a lot of autonomy and a rather different way of doing People Ops?

Welcome to Octopus Energy France.

Here, we operate under a NoHR model: managers are the first point of contact for their teams regarding people matters. The role of the People Ops team is to provide them with the right framework, the right tools, the right information, and the right reflexes so they can be autonomous on a daily basis.

In this context, we are looking for someone solid in People Ops, capable of both building and evolving our ways of working, and also of contributing concretely to the team's daily tasks.

The position is organized around two main areas, each representing approximately 50% of the role:

  • Build: People projects, tools, data, automation, AI, process improvement

  • Run: Personnel administration, payroll, support for managers and teams, data control and validation

This balance is obviously not fixed: depending on current events, projects, or times of the year, you may spend more time on one or the other.

What we are looking above all for is someone who likes building things without losing contact with operations.

What you will do:

1. Build: Evolve our People Ops

A significant part of your role will be to take ownership of projects that allow the People Ops team and managers to work better, more simply, and more effectively.

You will be able to, among other things:

  • manage People projects from end to end, from identifying the need to implementation

  • simplify and improve our processes

  • build and evolve our Help Hub and documentation

  • build useful dashboards and reports for steering: consolidate and better leverage data from our various tools

  • automate certain controls, reports, or repetitive tasks

  • identify and test simple use cases around AI and automation

  • participate in Group projects with Octopus teams based in the UK, among others

  • support managers in adopting new tools or new ways of working

  • We are looking for someone who likes to start with a need that is sometimes still a bit vague, understand it, structure it, and arrive at a concrete solution.

Data and AI are tools for People Ops and teams, not an end in themselves. Therefore, we are looking for neither a pure Data Analyst nor a tech profile, but someone who knows how to use them to solve operational problems.

    2. Run: Contribute to the team's daily operations

The other half of the position involves being fully involved in day-to-day People Ops.

Depending on the team's needs, you may be involved in:

  • personnel administration: contracts, addendums, movements, absences, departures…

  • payroll preparation and control

  • control and consistency of data between our different tools

  • questions from managers and employees

  • monitoring and resolving operational issues

  • supporting the team during periods of high activity or when an urgent matter arises

  • The idea is not to specialize in administration or payroll. However, you must be comfortable getting hands-on, understanding the issues, and providing support to the team when necessary.

Here, the run is also an important source for the build: it is often by confronting daily irritants that we identify what needs to be simplified, automated, or rethought.

This position is for you if:
  • you have at least 7 years of experience in People Ops, HR Operations, or a generalist role with a strong operational dimension
  • you have a very good level of spoken English (minimum B2-C1), essential for working with international Octopus teams

  • you have already worked in a start-up / scale-up environment, where you need to navigate ambiguity, adapt quickly, and move forward without everything being perfectly defined

  • you are comfortable with People Ops run: personnel administration, payroll, data control, support for managers and teams

  • you are comfortable with data and know how to use it to ensure reliability, analyze, and improve steering

  • you have already managed People and/or tools projects, from defining the need to implementation

  • you are very comfortable with Google Sheets / Excel and, more broadly, with a digital work environment: Google Workspace, Slack, MacBook…

  • you are pragmatic: you look for simple, useful, and truly usable solutions

  • you are autonomous, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and able to prioritize between in-depth projects and more urgent operational matters

  • Conversely, it is not for you if...

To be transparent, this position will probably not suit someone who is looking for:

  • a pure Data Analyst / People Analyst role

  • a role solely focused on projects, with no desire to contribute to the run

  • a position mainly oriented towards payroll or personnel administration

  • a purely tech role

  • a very strategic or management role, far removed from daily operations

  • We are looking for someone versatile and solid in People Ops, who can just as easily spend a morning advancing a tool or data project as an afternoon helping the team with payroll, a data inconsistency, or a manager's question.

Why you will love working with us?

Have you seen the salary or the range planned for this position but would like to discuss it? Ask us! During our first contact, this is a point we always address, because even if we take care to define the fairest possible scales, it also seems important to us to match your experience to the right salary. We will have the opportunity to tell you more about how we defined the salary and about the other benefits you will enjoy if you join us! Finally, know that we can have a certain degree of flexibility, as we would never want the salary to be a reason for someone not to apply to Octopus - what is most important to us is finding the right Octofit!

Certified since 2024 and 4th in 2025, Octopus Energy France is ranked 1st out of over 200 companies in the Great Place to Work 2026 ranking! This reflects our commitment to a fulfilling work environment!

We are an organization where people learn, decide, and build faster. Where they work autonomously, with extraordinary people, on innovative projects. Profit-sharing, flex-office, excellent health insurance, soft mobility package, partial reimbursement of your transport pass beyond the legal minimum, and even special days off to invest in a cause you care about... We want your investment to be rewarded with benefits that truly matter to you!

At Octopus, we seek fundamentally kind and empathetic individuals. Equal opportunity is important to us, and we strive to provide an inclusive and equitable work environment. We invite you to apply, regardless of your age, gender, marital status, color, disability, pregnancy or parenthood, origin, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
