Payroll Supervisor

Job description

Summary:

We are a large, PE-backed recurring revenue business with ~5,000 employees and a highly acquisitive growth strategy. We are seeking a Payroll Supervisor to help lead payroll operations, ensure compliance, and manage a team responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple entities. This role will oversee payroll staff, drive process improvements, and partner with HR and Finance to deliver a seamless employee experience while maintaining strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise payroll specialists and coordinate daily payroll operations.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to payroll team members.
  • Allocate workload and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
  • Payroll Oversight
  • Oversee bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll cycles for employees across multiple U.S. states.
  • Review and approve payroll reports, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Ensure accurate handling of PTO, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
  • Compliance & Governance
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (FLSA, tax laws, etc.).
  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal controls.
  • Support quarterly and annual filings (W-2, 941, unemployment reports).
  • Strategic Initiatives
  • Lead payroll system upgrades, integrations, and automation projects.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Manage onboarding of newly acquired entities into payroll systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with HR and Accounting to maintain accurate employee data.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of U.S. payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience in payroll operations.
  • Strong knowledge of wage & hour laws and payroll compliance.
  • High proficiency in Workday and ADP payroll systems (experience with UKG, Paylocity, or similar is a plus).
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to manage large datasets.
  • Experience in PE-backed or high-growth environments. (Preferred)
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC certification. (Preferred)
  • Background in M&A payroll integration. (Preferred)
