Painter
Job description
Metronest Homes Pty Ltd is a proudly Australian, well-established residential construction company delivering high-quality, custom-built homes across Greater Melbourne. The business operates throughout Melbourne’s western, eastern, and south-eastern growth corridors and is recognised for its structured project delivery, consistent build quality, and strong professional standards.
Our team maintains disciplined and well-managed construction sites where skilled trades are integral to successful project delivery. The company places strong emphasis on workmanship integrity, coordinated trade execution, and long-term client trust. Every trade role directly contributes to the quality, durability, and presentation of completed homes and commercial projects.
Position Purpose
The Painter is a skilled tradesperson responsible for delivering high-quality interior and exterior finishes across residential construction projects managed by Metronest Homes Pty Ltd. This role is critical to the final presentation, longevity, and overall value of each home at completion and handover.
Within Metronest Homes’ operations, painting is treated as a specialist finishing trade requiring technical skill, attention to detail, and professional accountability. The Painter works within structured construction schedules, coordinates with site supervisors and other trades, and consistently delivers finishes that reflect the company’s standards and reputation across Greater Melbourne.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
i. Carry out professional interior and exterior painting work across newly constructed and renovated residential dwellings, ensuring finishes meet Metronest Homes’ quality benchmarks and client expectations.
ii. Prepare all surfaces by cleaning, sanding, patching, sealing, and priming walls, ceilings, trims, doors, facades, and external elements to ensure correct paint adhesion and long-term durability.
iii. Interpret construction drawings, colour schedules, and site instructions provided by supervisors and project managers to deliver accurate and consistent painting outcomes across multiple sites.
iv. Select, mix, and prepare paints, coatings, sealers, and finishes in accordance with manufacturer specifications, environmental conditions, and project requirements to achieve uniform colour matching and surface consistency.
v. Apply primers, paints, varnishes, stains, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment, ensuring clean edges, even coverage, and a high-quality finish suitable for premium residential homes.
vi. Protect fixtures, fittings, cabinetry, flooring, glazing, and adjacent surfaces using appropriate masking and covering techniques to prevent damage during painting activities.
vii. Safely erect, use, and dismantle ladders, trestles, and scaffolding where required, maintaining strict compliance with workplace health and safety procedures on active construction sites.
viii. Coordinate painting activities with site supervisors and other trades to align with construction sequencing, reduce rework, and support efficient project timelines.
ix. Inspect completed paintwork, identify defects or touch-up requirements, and undertake rectification work to ensure finishes meet internal quality standards prior to handover.
x. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organised, and professional condition, ensuring materials are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with safety and environmental requirements.
xi. Conduct all work in a professional manner that supports Metronest Homes’ culture of trust, accountability, and consistent workmanship across Greater Melbourne project sites.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must clearly demonstrate all of the following:
i. Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or an equivalent Australian-recognised qualification.
ii. Substantial and relevant industry experience, with a minimum of two years of full-time practical experience performing painting duties within residential or construction-based environments.
iii. Proven experience working on active construction sites with structured supervision, sequencing, and quality controls.
iv. Demonstrated ability to consistently deliver professional-grade finishes aligned with high-quality residential build standards.
v. Strong working knowledge of surface preparation techniques, paint systems, and finishing methods.
vi. Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including working at heights and the safe handling of paints and chemicals.
Applications that do not clearly evidence both the required qualification and substantial hands-on experience will not be considered.
Preference will be given to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
Professional Attributes
i. Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
ii. Reliable, punctual, and respectful of construction site protocols and timelines.
iii. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a coordinated construction team.
iv. Clear communication skills and a professional approach when interacting with supervisors and fellow trades.
v. Commitment to maintaining Metronest Homes’ reputation for quality, trust, and consistency across Greater Melbourne.
