Job description

Introductory text

Have you ever thought about becoming a Sergeant Sport? Read on:

Attention athletes!

Are you happiest when you're involved with sports all day and do you have excellent physical and mental fitness? Have you completed a sports education (MBO Sport & Movement level 4, and/or Sports Academy and/or Sports Studies with the appropriate minors) and do you enjoy a challenge? Then the role of sports instructor in the Air Force might be the job for you.

In this role, you will ensure the physical and mental readiness of military personnel during operational tasks. Competency days will be organized as part of the application procedure. These will take place on June 10 and 11, 2026.

What you will do

As a Sergeant Instructor Physical Education & Sports in the Air Force, you will be part of the Military Sports Working Group of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. This working group provides guidance and training to military personnel in both physical and mental aspects. You are responsible for keeping our military personnel fit for their duties and tasks. How? By giving sports lessons and by teaching them to push their limits and cope with fear. In this way, you will prepare both units and individuals for operational deployment.

PLUS POINTS OF THIS ROLE

  • Salary: your gross base salary, plus allowances and our favorable travel expenses, pension, and healthcare benefits, will result in a pleasant net surprise.
  • Work atmosphere: nowhere will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as in the Ministry of Defence.
  • Challenge: you will prepare military units and individuals by making them physically and mentally strong.

The start date for which you are eligible will be determined at a later stage. This depends, among other things, on the results of the fitness test, psychological assessment, medical examination, and security screening, which are part of the application process. Once all these components have been successfully completed, your start date will be determined in consultation.

Where you will work

You will be stationed at one of the Air Force units in the Netherlands. You will give sports lessons and provide mental support to military units and individuals. In addition, you will participate in exercises and you must take into account that you may be deployed abroad.

Before you start working, you will first follow the Non-Commissioned Officer Training at the Royal Air Education and Training Center (RAETC) in Woensdrecht. This training lasts 12 weeks and includes a General Military Training (AMO), in which you will learn all basic military skills. Subsequently, you will follow a Technical Skills Training (VTO) at the sports facility in Amersfoort (16 weeks). After successfully completing your training and the subsequent task-specific training, you will immediately start your career as a Sergeant Instructor Sport.

Would you like to register for the competency days (June 10 and 11) and take your first step as a potential sports colleague? Then send your CV and cover letter before June 1, 2026 to:
