Job description
Introductory text
The Air Force is more than just flying. The Royal Air Force Orchestra professionally contributes to the public presentation of the Royal Air Force. The orchestra is one of only two professional light music orchestras in the Netherlands and enjoys international prestige.
The Royal Air Force Orchestra is a professional military orchestra with 48 military musicians, supported by a technical service and staff. Its main task is to support military ceremonial duties. Additionally, the orchestra performs relationship concerts domestically and abroad.
All musicians master a wide range of musical styles and perform for diverse audiences, both as an orchestra and in ensemble form, often in collaboration with guest artists.
Application procedure
The selection procedure consists of an audition (preferably all on one date, depending on the number of applicants; proposed date: November 13) and a job interview. If the outcome is not clear after two rounds, a third round may be added. This will take the form of a project within the orchestra as a replacement. Furthermore, you must meet the medical, physical, and psychological requirements of the Ministry of Defence. A preliminary selection will be made based on your curriculum vitae and cover letter.

Are you looking for a nine-to-five job? Then this is not for you. Because you won't encounter a normal workday here. On rehearsal days, for example, you will start at ten in the morning; during relationship concerts, you will be busy throughout the evenings. In addition, you will also play in smaller ensembles for official Air Force and Defence staff occasions.
Conditions
Before you start working with the Royal Air Force Orchestra, you will follow a military training program at the Royal Air Education and Training Center (RAETC) in Woensdrecht. This training will be fully reimbursed by the Air Force. As soon as you begin your training, you will receive a salary.
The training starts in the second half of 2027.
Perhaps you are hesitating. We are not. We see not only who you are now but also who you can become. What you cannot do today, you will learn tomorrow. With good education, training, guidance, and a team that stands behind you.
