Non-Commissioned Officer Air Defence Launch

Introductory text

Are unknown aircraft or objects detected in our airspace or during an exercise or mission? Then the Patriot missiles are deployed to neutralize them. As a Non-Commissioned Officer Air Defence Launch, you will lead the team responsible for maintaining, assembling, and preparing the Patriot launch systems for firing.

What you will do

As a Non-Commissioned Officer Air Defence Launch, you will be in charge of the launch crew. This team is responsible for the maintenance, assembly, loading, and preparation for firing of the launch units of the Patriot weapon system. These systems can detect and intercept targets at great distance and altitude.
Together with the fire control crew (who scan the airspace for unknown aircraft and projectiles), the launch crew forms a close-knit team that regularly participates in exercises. During your service, you will experience large-scale exercises in other NATO countries and a live firing exercise in Crete.

Where you will work

You will work at the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command in Vredepeel (on the border of Limburg and North Brabant). The unit consists mainly of soldiers from the Army and Air Force, but also personnel from the Navy. You may also be deployed to guard the airspace elsewhere in a NATO context. But first, you will complete your military and vocational training at the Royal Air Education and Training Center (RAETC) in Woensdrecht. Because all systems are mobile and the fire controllers and launchers transport them themselves, you will spend part of your training obtaining various driver's licenses.
