Are unknown aircraft or objects observed in our airspace or within an exercise or mission? Then the Patriot missiles come into action to eliminate them. As a Non-Commissioned Officer Air Defence Launching, you will lead the team that maintains, mounts, and prepares the Patriot launching systems for firing.

What you will do

As a Non-Commissioned Officer Air Defence Launching, you are at the head of the launching crew. This team is responsible for the maintenance, mounting, loading, and preparation for firing of the launching units of the Patriot weapon system. This allows targets to be detected and intercepted at great distance and altitude.
Together with the fire control crew (which scans the airspace for unknown aircraft and projectiles), the launching crew forms a close-knit team that regularly goes on exercises. During your service, you will experience major exercises in other NATO countries and a firing exercise in Crete.

Where you will work

You will work at the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command in Vredepeel (on the border of Limburg and North Brabant). The unit mainly consists of soldiers from the Army and Air Force, but also personnel from the Navy. You may also be deployed to guard the airspace elsewhere within NATO. But first, you will follow the military training and vocational training at the Royal Air Education and Training Center (RAETC) in Woensdrecht. Because all systems are mobile and the fire controllers and launchers transport them themselves, you will spend part of your training obtaining various driver's licenses.
