The Engineers are an indispensable link in conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The Engineers ensure, under all circumstances, if possible anywhere in the world, that friendly forces can move freely and that the enemy cannot. In addition, the Engineers provide protection and habitability in places where the armed forces are deployed. They do this with a lot of technical knowledge and improvisational talent. Engineers are skilled, efficient, broadly deployable, and use their technical talent to accomplish their missions.

What you will do

You can see the Engineers as a large construction company and the civil engineers of the Army. The Engineers are also called the construction company of the armed forces. An Engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, they can lay and clear mines, build and destroy bridges, roads, and airfields, and construct shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineers focus primarily on delaying the advancing enemy and neutralizing the work of the enemy Engineers. In addition, the Engineers perform decontamination activities in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

As a Junior Officer Combat Support Engineer, you will lead a group within the Armored Engineers. Your group will support combat units during combat by making and keeping the terrain passable. At the same time, you will try to make the terrain more difficult for the enemy to traverse, for example, by erecting obstacles.

As a junior officer, you are responsible for the proficiency and employability of your personnel and you provide their education and training in the area of individual military skills.

Note: There are multiple enlistment dates (start dates) throughout the year. The enlistment date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the outcome of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at an Engineer unit of the Operational Support Command Land (OOCL) in Wezep, 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, or at 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After enlistment, you will first follow the Junior Officer Training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the specialized training at the Defence Training and Education Centre for Engineers in Vught. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will additionally follow the driver training at the Driver Training and Education Centre in Oirschot.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. In addition, you must take into account that, like every Soldier, you can be deployed on missions abroad.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Specialized Technical Training.

As a Junior Officer Combat Support Engineer, you will lead a group of approximately 10 soldiers. After two positions at an active unit, you can decide to teach at a school battalion. In the future, as a Sergeant Major, you will be the most important link between the squad leaders and the platoon commander.
