The Engineer Corps is an indispensable link in conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The Engineer Corps ensures, under all circumstances, anywhere in the world if possible, that friendly forces can move freely and the enemy cannot. In addition, the Engineer Corps provides protection and habitability in areas where the armed forces are deployed. They do this with a lot of technical knowledge and improvisation skills. Engineers are skilled, efficient, broadly deployable, and use their technical talent to accomplish their missions.

What you will do

You can see the Engineer Corps as a large construction company and the civil engineers of the Army. The Engineer Corps is also called the construction company of the armed forces. An engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, they can lay and clear mines, construct and destroy bridges, roads, and airfields, and build shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineer Corps focuses primarily on delaying the advancing enemy and neutralizing the work of the enemy's Engineer Corps. In addition, the Engineer Corps performs decontamination work in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

As a Junior Officer Combat Support Engineer, you will lead a group within the Armoured Engineer unit. Your group will support combat units during combat by making and keeping the terrain passable. At the same time, you will try to make the terrain more difficult for the enemy to traverse, for example, by creating obstacles.

As a junior officer, you are responsible for the training and readiness of your people and you will provide their education and training in individual military skills.

Please note: There are multiple start dates (intake dates) per year. The intake date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the outcome of the Psychological Assessment, the Medical Examination, and the Security Clearance. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and agreed upon with you.

Where you will work

You will work at an Engineer unit of the Operational Support Command Land (OOCL) in Wezep, 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, or at 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After entering service, you will first follow the Junior Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the specialized training at the Defence Training and Education Centre Engineer in Vught. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will additionally follow driver training at the Training and Education Centre Driving in Oirschot.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. In addition, you must take into account that, like any Soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Vocational Training.

As a Junior Officer Combat Support Engineer, you will lead a group of approximately 10 soldiers. After two positions in an active unit, you can decide to become an instructor at a school battalion. In the future, as a sergeant major, you will be the most important link between the squad leaders and the platoon commander.
