Job description

Introductory text

Do you want to become a construction supervisor, but not at a 'regular' company? At the Ministry of Defence, you can work for the Engineers Corps: the army's military construction company, specializing in combat support and construction. As a Construction Supervisor, you will lead a group of about ten military technicians.

Note: If you are hired for this position, you will be employed by the Ministry of Defence with the job title 'NCO Construction Engineer'.

Do you possess an MBO 3 diploma and want to develop yourself step-by-step within the non-commissioned officer domain of the Army? Then this is now possible.

What you will do

As an NCO Construction Engineer, you and your group will be responsible for carrying out civil engineering and civil infrastructure projects. Together, you will work on a wide variety of military constructions and objects. Think of bridges, airfields, shelters, observation posts, and even complete camps. You are both a specialist and a leader simultaneously. With your technical knowledge and improvisation skills, you will steer your team in the right direction, under all circumstances.

PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION

  • Salary: your gross base salary, supplemented by allowances and our favorable travel expenses, pension, and health insurance schemes, will result in a pleasant net surprise.
  • Work atmosphere: nowhere else will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as at the Ministry of Defence.
  • Challenge: in very diverse circumstances and sometimes with limited resources, you will ensure that everything works.

Note: With an MBO 3 diploma, you can be trained as a squad leader in the lower ranks of the Army. You will be made competent for your first position and will enter a phased career. This means that, without further development, you can perform functions that are phased labeled within your branch or service in the lower ranks. If you wish to advance to the next position within this phased career, additional internal technical training is required.

If you have the ambition to further advance to a regular career, with development opportunities towards adjutant? Then you can continue to develop and train yourself internally over the years, and opt for entry into a regular career within the Army.

Note: this classification is generic. Additional requirements may apply depending on your choice of branch or service.

If you possess a VMBO GL/TL diploma, an MBO 4 diploma, or a transition certificate from HAVO 4 to 5? Then you can also start directly with the training for a regular career. This training is more extensive than the phased variant. You will also start as a squad leader in the lower ranks, but due to the broader training, you are also deployable in positions labeled for a regular career.

You will therefore already meet the requirements for advancement to the upper ranks. By following career courses and any supplementary technical training, you can then relatively easily make the step to the upper ranks.

Where you will work

Depending on your preference and the availability within the organization, you will work at one of the Engineer Corps locations: Oirschot (near Eindhoven), Wezep (near Zwolle), or in 's-Hertogenbosch. You will regularly participate in exercises at home and abroad. You may also be deployed.

After entering service, you will first follow the Non-Commissioned Officer Training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the job-specific training at the Defence Training and Education Centre Engineers in Vught. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will also follow the driving training at the Training and Education Centre Driving in Oirschot.

The Royal Netherlands Army will take your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Training.
