Introductory Text

Do you want to become a construction supervisor, but not at a 'regular' company? In the armed forces, you can work at the Corps of Engineers: the military construction company of the Army, specializing in combat support and construction. As a Construction Supervisor, you will lead a group of about ten military technicians.

Note: If you are hired for this position, you will be employed by the armed forces with the job title 'Sergeant Construction Engineer'.

Do you possess an MBO 3 diploma and want to develop step-by-step within the non-commissioned officer domain of the Army? Then this is now possible.

This is what you will do

As a Sergeant Construction Engineer, you and your group will be the supervisors of civil engineering and civil engineering projects. Together, you will work on the most diverse military constructions and objects. Think of bridges, airfields, shelters, observation posts, and even complete camps. You are both a specialist and a leader. With your technical knowledge and improvisational skills, you will steer your team in the right direction, under all circumstances.

Note: with an MBO 3 diploma, you can be trained as a squad leader in the lower ranks of the Army. You will be made ready for your first role and enter a phased career. This means that, without further development, you can perform roles that are phased labeled within your branch or service in the lower ranks. If you want to advance to the next role within this phased career, additional internal technical training is required.

If you have the ambition to advance further towards a regular career, with opportunities for development towards adjutant? Then you can further develop and train yourself internally over the years and opt for entry into a regular career within the Army.

Please note: this classification is generic. Additional requirements may apply depending on your choice of branch or service.

If you possess a VMBO GL/TL diploma, an MBO 4 diploma, or a transition certificate from HAVO 4 to 5? Then you can also start directly with the training for a regular career. This training is more extensive than the phased variant. You will also start as a squad leader in the lower ranks, but due to the broader training, you will also be deployable in roles labeled for a regular career.

You will then already meet the requirements for advancement to the upper ranks. By following career training and any technical retraining, you can then relatively easily make the step to the upper ranks.

This is where you will work

Depending on your preference and the availability within the organization, you will work at one of the Corps of Engineers locations: Oirschot (near Eindhoven), Wezep (near Zwolle), or in 's-Hertogenbosch. You will regularly participate in exercises at home and abroad. You may also be deployed on missions.

After entering service, you will first follow the Non-Commissioned Officer Training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the job-specific training at the Defence Training and Education Centre Corps of Engineers in Vught. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will also follow additional driver training at the Driver Training and Education Centre in Oirschot.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Training.
