Are you flexible, creative, and possess strong communication skills and do you want to build a career in the field of Communication & Engagement (C&E)? And do you have (at least) a VMBO GL diploma? Then apply as a Non-Commissioned Officer C&E at the Ministry of Defence! After we have trained you as a Non-Commissioned Officer, you will work at Psychological Operations (PsyOps) within the C&E field. After your first role, there are opportunities to transfer to Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) and Military Public Affairs (MilPA) or within the PsyOps functional area.

Note: If you are hired for this position, you will be appointed to the Ministry of Defence as a ‘Non-Commissioned Officer Communication & Engagement’.

What you will do

As a Non-Commissioned Officer C&E, you will start within the PsyOps functional area of the Army. You will advise superiors on the planning and execution of activities. You will also carry out these activities yourself. The work may take place in a civilian environment.

Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC)
You will be involved in the interaction between your military unit and the civilian environment. Think of non-governmental organizations, local authorities, and the civilian population. Additionally, you will analyze this civilian environment and its impact on the mission.

Psychological Operations (PsyOps)

You will work in a team with specialists in the field of target group analysis and human behavior. In this way, you will try to understand why people behave in a certain way in a mission area. You will also plan and execute activities to influence target groups so that they can achieve their mission objectives. For this, you will use various communication tools.

Military Public Affairs (MilPA)

You will be involved in communication in the broadest sense of the word. You will advise and support your head of communication and your colleagues in their advice to the management of an Army unit regarding corporate communication policy. You will keep your colleagues informed of important developments and you will be a point of contact both internally and externally. You will also maintain contact with the media and, in consultation with the department head, determine which communication tools you want to use for this.

Note: there are multiple start dates throughout the year. After applying, you will receive a personal application file containing a start date. Please note: this is a fictional date and therefore incorrect. The start date for which you are eligible will only be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the psychological examination, the medical examination, and the security screening that are part of the application process. Once all these components have been successfully completed, your start date will be discussed and confirmed.

Where you will work

You will be assigned to 1 Civilian-Military Interaction Command (1CMI-Co) of the Army. 1CMI-Co is based at the Koning Willem III barracks in Apeldoorn.
The barracks have excellent sports facilities, are centrally located, and are easily accessible.

You will participate in exercises where you act independently with your team, but also keep in mind that you may be deployed.
During exercises, you will be temporarily assigned to one of the Dutch Army Brigades, the Navy, the Air Force, or Special Forces and carry out activities there. This will allow you to develop more knowledge of the various Defence units.

Before you start working, you will first complete the Non-Commissioned Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo (46 weeks), followed by a Technical Vocational Training (VTO) in Apeldoorn. After successfully completing your training, you will immediately begin your career as a Non-Commissioned Officer C&E in Apeldoorn.

The Royal Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Vocational Training.
