Then, after your training at the Royal Military Academy, we have a job for you; as a Reconnaissance Soldier with the Army's Cavalry.

Note: if you are hired for this position, you will be employed by the Ministry of Defence as a 'Junior Officer Cavalry Reconnaissance'.

What you will do

As a Junior Officer Cavalry Reconnaissance in the Army, you will collect tactical information for your unit. As a soldier of this unit, you, as a reconnaissance soldier, are the ears and eyes of the brigade while you move in reconnaissance vehicles of the Fennek type.

As a Junior Officer Cavalry Reconnaissance, you will start as a vehicle commander and lead two reconnaissance soldiers. You will operate in a group of two reconnaissance vehicles, a total of 6 soldiers. You are part of a reconnaissance platoon consisting of 8 or 6 reconnaissance vehicles. Together with your team, you will collect information about the strength, location, and plans of the enemy. Your tasks include searching for command posts, logistical installations, and reconnoitering bridges and routes. You can also be deployed to guard the front and flanks of your brigade, for which you will have various high-tech weapons and resources at your disposal, such as Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), combat field radars, and unmanned ground sensors.

Where you will work

You will be assigned to one of the four Army brigades. These are located at a large number of locations in the country. You will participate in exercises and must take into account that you may be deployed abroad.

Before you start working, you will first follow the Junior Officer training at the Royal Military Academy in Ermelo, Oirschot, Assen, or Schaarsbergen, where you will learn all basic military skills, followed by the technical training at the Maneuver Training and Education Centre in Amersfoort. After successfully completing your training, you will immediately start your career as a Junior Officer Cavalry Reconnaissance.

The Royal Army will take your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Army will inform you about your actual placement during the technical training.

As a Junior Officer Cavalry Reconnaissance, you will start as a Vehicle Commander. Here you will lead a Reconnaissance Soldier (Hussar), Fennek Driver, and a Reconnaissance Gunner Corporal. Each with different specialisms. You are part of a reconnaissance group consisting of two reconnaissance vehicles and a total of six reconnaissance soldiers. After three years of experience as a Vehicle Commander, you can become a Platoon Commander in a Reconnaissance Platoon or take on a role as an Instructor at a training center. From your fourth position, it is possible to become a Deputy Platoon Commander. Together with the Officer (Platoon Commander), you will be responsible for the material and personnel of the Reconnaissance Platoon. You will implement the training program, plan and organize shooting and exercise days to bring your reconnaissance platoon to the highest possible level.
