Introductory Text

Aspiring to a leadership position and having an affinity and/or experience with drones (UAS: Unmanned Aerial Systems) and wanting to work as a soldier in the Army within an infantry combat unit? Then apply for one of the following locations in the Netherlands.

Please note: the job cluster with physical requirements differs per brigade or unit. After your intake interview, you will be informed which job cluster applies to the unit where you will be placed.

What you will do

You will be working at one of the following units: 43 Mechanized Brigade (Havelte/Soesterberg), 13 Light Brigade (Oirschot) or 11 Air Assault Brigade (Schaarsbergen and Assen).

After enlistment, you will first follow the Non-Commissioned Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo (Assen, Schaarsbergen, Oirschot), where you will learn all basic military skills. This training lasts 42 weeks. After completion, you will start the technical training (VTO) at the Maneuver School in Amersfoort (training for Air Assault takes place in Schaarsbergen). This training lasts 38 weeks. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will additionally follow the driver's training at the Driving Training and Education Center in Oirschot.

As a soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like any soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial preference for organizational reasons. During the Technical Training, you will be informed about your actual placement.

Please note: The 45th Armored Infantry Battalion (part of 43 Mechanized Brigade) is expected to gradually relocate from the Darp (Havelte) location to the Soesterberg location from mid-2026 until after the summer of 2027.

• VMBO Mixed, VMBO Theoretical, MBO 4, HAVO, VWO
• You are between 17 years and 30 years and 11 months old
• Good command of the Dutch language (speaking and writing)
• Glasses or contact lenses are not a problem
• You must be able to swim

RESILIENCE

To be able to work at Defense, it is important that you have good physical condition. That is why the physical examination is an essential part of the application procedure. And to prepare you well for this, we have developed special training schedules.

Where you will work

As a Sergeant Commander (C-)UAS Group in the Army, you will be part of a unit and work at one of the following locations: Havelte (Soesterberg), Oirschot, Schaarsbergen or Assen.

In this role, you will lead a group and, together with your group, carry out the preparation, execution, and follow-up of assignments. As a non-commissioned officer, you are the expert in all means and possibilities of your group. You can not only operate the equipment within the group but also train your personnel so that they can operate the systems as well. The objective of the Counter-UAS units is to protect the infrastructure, personnel, and resources of the unit against hostile UAS assets.
