Job description

Mines Saint-Etienne is a School of the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), the 1st public group of engineering and management schools in France. IMT is an EPSCP (grand établissement) under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.

The National Superior School of Mines of Saint-Étienne (Mines Saint-Etienne) is responsible for training, research and innovation, transfer to industry, and scientific, technical, and industrial culture missions.

Mines Saint-Etienne represents: 2,400 engineering students and researchers in training, 480 staff members (150 Researchers and Teacher-Researchers), a consolidated budget of €46 million, 3 industry-focused campuses in Saint-Etienne and Lyon (AURA region), microelectronics and connected objects in Gardanne (Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis, SUD region), and health engineering in Saint-Etienne; 6 research units; 5 training and research centers; a leading scientific, technical, and industrial culture center in France "La Rotonde" (> 50,000 visitors/year).

Scientific Context and Internship Objectives:

Bioresorbable electronic devices represent a promising approach for the development of temporary electronic systems, particularly in the biomedical field. These devices are designed to perform a specific function before gradually degrading, which requires the development of suitable materials and energy storage solutions compatible with this approach.

In this context, this internship focuses on the development of electrode materials for batteries intended for bioresorbable electronic devices (resorbtronics). The objective is to prepare and implement electrode materials, then study their electrochemical properties to better understand their behavior and evaluate their potential for energy storage.

The intern will participate in material preparation, electrochemical experiments, as well as data analysis and interpretation. This work will contribute to identifying parameters influencing electrode performance and guiding their optimization.

🎯 What we expect from you:

  • Prepare and implement electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage systems.

  • Conduct electrochemical measurements to evaluate the properties and performance of the studied materials.

  • Analyze and interpret experimental results, then contribute to the optimization of preparation and characterization protocols.

  • Present the results obtained and participate in scientific discussions around the project.

🌍 Why join Mines Saint-Etienne?

We support each of our employees on the path to excellence, with the conviction that together, we can have a lasting and significant impact on our world.

Joining Mines Saint-Étienne offers the opportunity to find:

  • A stimulating environment: cutting-edge experimental resources, a welcoming work environment, and a strong international network (T.I.M.E., EULiST).

  • Real impact: contract research projects representing 11 million euros per year, mainly with industrial partners, a scientific culture center, La Rotonde, involved for 25 years in scientific mediation and welcoming over 50,000 visitors per year.

  • Public transport costs covered up to 75% (under conditions),

  • Staff lounge (sports, cultural activities, works council benefits on leisure and social events),

  • 1 day of leave per month (to be taken subject to tutor approval)
