What you will do

As a Naval Officer Business Administration in the Navy, you will be responsible for the deployment of a complete naval ship: for navigation, safety, the deployment of weapon systems, and the use of communication equipment. You will lead the bridge team. Later, your work will primarily take place in the Command Center, the place where all combat information is received and where decisions are made during operations. From here, you will play an important role in the deployment of the ship, the crew, and weapon systems. Because the deployment of the ship is always the responsibility of the Naval Officer, only Officers of the Naval Corps can command a ship.

But first, you will of course complete your training. You will start as a Midshipman – that's what we call a naval officer in training – at the Royal Netherlands Naval College (KIM) in Den Helder with the general naval officer training and the technical training. You will pursue your bachelor's degree in Military Business Sciences (MBW) at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) in Breda. Based on moral dilemmas from military practice, you will continuously develop your leadership qualities. You will also develop your analytical and social skills and pay a lot of attention to your presentation and research skills. During the course of your studies, you will specialize in economics, logistics, personnel management, or safety. During your 5.5-year training, you will also go to sea to experience working and living together with your teammates on board.

Where you will work

In the first few years after your training, you will work on one of the naval ships. Initially, you will often be on the bridge, where the ship is navigated.
