As a pilot, you provide air power for the Air Force with manned and unmanned aircraft and helicopters. You provide combat support, but also transport people and materiel. Do you have what it takes?

Please note that this is an internal vacancy for already appointed professional military personnel. The requirements for internal applicants are the same as for external applicants. The application and selection process is also largely the same. What you will do

As an Officer Pilot, your main task is of course flying, but you also perform many ground tasks within your squadron as part of a team, such as flight preparation and planning exercises. The purpose of your flights depends on the aircraft you fly. As an Apache pilot, you provide combat support from the air; ground troops rely on you. As a Cougar pilot, you perform Special Operations worldwide with high political sensitivity, in the most difficult circumstances, and you are always ready for action. As an NH-90 pilot, you fly from Royal Netherlands Navy ships and participate in amphibious operations or track down submarines or drug transports. As a Chinook or Air Transport pilot, you are responsible for transporting materiel and people. Your cargo is diverse, and your operational area is the world. As an MQ9 Reaper pilot, you gather intelligence with unmanned aircraft from a ground station. As an F-35 pilot, you defend Dutch airspace and that of our NATO allies, and support ground troops. Whichever type you fly, it is always important to keep your knowledge up to date. Therefore, you train a lot and discuss areas for improvement with other pilots after each flight. If you love flying, this position is perfect for you.

Where you will work

You will work at one of the Air Force's airbases and may be deployed on missions anywhere in the world. Before you can call yourself a pilot, you will first complete a four-year training program, during which you will be shaped as an officer and as a pilot. After your military training at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) in Breda, you will go to Woensdrecht. There you will follow the Basic Military Pilot Training (EMVO). Afterwards, you will complete further training in Europe or America, depending on the type of aircraft you will fly. The choice of aircraft type, for example F-35, C-130, Apache, or the MQ-9 (the unmanned aircraft), will be determined at a later stage in the training.
