For example, with the Army? After completing your studies, you will start as a Technical Service Officer in a recovery platoon. You will then be a technical and military leader.

What you will do

As a Technical Service Officer, you will work in one of the platoons of a Recovery Company. As second-in-command, you will lead 60 to 80 military personnel who maintain and repair the equipment of a (combat) unit. Because soldiers work with many materials and vehicles, wheeled and tracked vehicles, artillery, weapons, weapon systems, and communication equipment, among others, end up at a recovery platoon for repair and maintenance. It is your task as a Technical Service Officer to lead the mechanics who are involved in repair and maintenance. In your first position, you will start as a 'deputy platoon commander' and will be primarily responsible for the internal logistics of the platoon. Where you will work

As a Technical Service Officer, after training, you will start in a leadership position as deputy commander at a recovery platoon in Havelte, Wezep, Oirschot, or Vredepeel. You will thus contribute to the tasks of the technical service: at the barracks, during exercises, and during deployment.

Before you start working as a Technical Service Officer, you will follow a Military Scientific Education at the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) in Breda and Den Helder, followed by a Technical Vocational Training.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Vocational Training.

As a Technical Service Officer, you start as deputy commander at a recovery platoon in Havelte, Wezep, Stroe, Oirschot, or Vredepeel. After your initial function, you can advance to subsequent functions at higher levels, generally within the Technical Service. In the future, as an officer, you can also advance to more general leadership, advisory, and management functions that are necessary for the direction of the Ministry of Defence in general and the Royal Netherlands Army in particular.
